Hello, moms! My little one is now in the faze of snacking and feeding her self, I am looking for "good" snack cups. One that don't spill and easy for her to get into to get her snack. She loves the vogurt bites, cherrios, and goldfish. I have seen a few different type available in the store but thought I'd ask other mom which they perfer and why? Or why ones they didn't like and why. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Hi W., When my kids were smaller I used the snack cups with the twisting lids. only alittle area would open... enough for them to dig around in it but small enough that they wouldn't spill it. When they have had enough just turn the lid closed. You daughter might even enjoy being able to get her own and close it too. If you have a very small backpack for her... when you go on an outting she can load it with a snack cup a drink in a non-drip sippy cup and even a toy or two. Then, she'll be like mommy and have a bad of her own. My daughter loved it. I would make up her snack and drink and she loaded her bad herself. Now, she's 9 and loves to cook with me! Enjoy!

When my son was young, I tried 2 or 3 different kinds of cups and still nothing beat just throwing the snacks into a ziploc or sandwich baggie. First couple of times they might spill a bit, but when they realize it's not going back in the bag, they take more care not to mess, lol.

Good luck!

When my children were younger, I cut a small hole in the lid of a sm sour cream container. It worked fine.

I agree with the ziploc bags. The snack trap is my least favorite. I think it was a great idea, but it seems that my daughter then prefers to get them all out of there (without eating them) and then I have a huge mess in the car or elsewhere. They do make attachment double cup holders for car seats and strollers that you could use one for a snack cup and the other to hold the drink

I found that Gerber graduates has a lot of "self-feeding" snacks that both of my kids loved. Ravioli, snacks, crackers, etc. Very totable. Give it a try.

In addition, since you are the only parent when your husband is away, you may want to try The Babysitter Tree to get some "adult" time. You can give a "wish list" of qualifications, get Caregiver referrals in your area, review their information in the comfort of your own home and interview anyone of interest. You can then verify their background, references and qualifications so that you can find some peace of mind. Just call ###-###-#### for more info!

Good luck and happy parenting!

We always used snack traps with my daughter and they worked great. No spill, easy for her to use, easy to clean. I think they have them at babies r us.

I just used the ziploc snack sized baggies. Nothing to wash so no extra work, either...
Completely portable and they do learn not to spill quite quickly...

love love love the snack trap!
(not saying to buy from here- just giving an example of what it is)

adding: using ziplocks means adding to our landfills...
if you want something LIKE a ziplock, this is what I use for my 3 & six year olds

We love this size:

not sure a ziplock, or what I use, is good for smaller little ones? anyway, THIS is reusable and SAFE (read their FAQs: http://www.snacktaxi.com/faq.htm)

I have always used andloved the plastic Sassy brand colorful snack cups-they all have screw on lids (come in a 3 pack of different sizes) and a part of the top is easily opened and closed allowing them access to the snacks and keeping the mess to a minimum :) The Target dollar section has some similar ones right now too -not in 3 packs and kind of big, but same idea.

As they get older ziplocs are good too but you wind up wasting a lot of bags (not the most enironmentally friendly option). The Snack Trap we have never owned but other mom friends have, they work well but since the top doesn't actually seal, you wind up keeping the whole thing in a ziploc bag in your diaper bag or purse to keep from spilling and to keep the food fresh.
