C.O.
I use Nutella instead of the chocolate. The hot marshmallow makes i gooey. My kids love it and I usually have that on hand.
So I keep finding new free things to do at my daughters 6th slumber birthday party and fell in love with S'Mores. shes such a S'More junkie=)
My new thing I want to do is make an indoor S'Mores bar. I'll put a link in the SWH
They are essentially a long narrow wooden box filled with stones and sterno cans and then J. add kabob sticks ad S'More ingrdients and you're set. (obviously I would make it so this was heavily monitored-as in before their parents left)
My question is has anyone done this?
Does it alter the taste much?
How about a candle? they are cheaper would that be unhealthy if wax touched the food?
I've researched the sterno method and it says it is safe since the chemicals are in the can and it is made of alcohol which burns away when on fire plus it has to be cleaner than using sticks from a forest over burnt paper, food and so on--not that we don't love this way) , but I was thinking of doing candles instead
Thoughts? Ideas?
Also what cool cheap ingredients do you use for S'Mores? besides the typical hershey, marshmallow and Graham cracker
i used to hate chocolate so I used peanut putter so I was thinking of including reeses cups for an alternative? any other things you use for S'Mores?
I should add I know you can make them in the oven, microwave and so on--we do at times of desperation, but my daughters favorite part is roasting her mashmallow so I wanted to find a way to do that safely indoors

Sunny love the cookie alternative to crackers as an option=)

We make them in the microwave inside and the kids love it because the marshmellows get really big. We have to watch it because they can "blow up," but it's a lot of fun and safe.
Very easy, very cheap, and very yummy! You can't go wrong.
I would J. broil them in the oven. Seems much safer and easier.
I saw a yummy recipe on pinterest - smore cones. it was a waffle cone wrapped in aluminum. inside were marshmallows (mini) bits of chocolate and crushed graham crackers. The kids put in what they want and then you wrap and bake in oven. Looked incredibly delicious.
I also believe you could add caramel or maraschino cherries to spice it up:)
i would bake them. have the kids assemble them and then wrap them in foil and mark their innitals on the foil and bake them for like 10 minutes in a 350 degree oven, banana and chocolate, peanutbutter and chocololate, chocolate and marshmallow,
Justwed -- sent you a pm! For anyone who is interested in this recipe, here's the address (if Mama lets M. post it!)

I J. saw on pinterest a recipe that sounds absolutely awesome! Put down a lump of refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough, then a graham cracker, a marshmallow, a chocolate square, and then another lump of cookie dough on top. When you bake it, it turns into a giant cookie with no evidence of the smore on the inside. It looked fantastic -- I haven't tried it yet to know how hard it would be.
There is an "Urban Drive In Theater" here is Austin.. They sell "S'more Kits" and have sternos set up on little tables with lawn chairs around them..
Very cute.. Here is a link to their site.. It is a blast to attend their outdoor movies and be able to make smores with the city behind the screen.

How the smore''s works: you get a smores kit with everything you need to build a smores sandwich, we give you a little tiny fire to cook your marshmallows with on skewers and then you put them all together like at a summer camp- camp out, but instead, at a drive in movie!"
The hubs saw a way to do it on the Food Network.
Put the grahams down, add the marshmellow. Broil for a minute or two. Turn oven off. Then add the chocolate and top graham. Put in the oven for another 30 seconds or so. DONE!
We lined the pan with foil for easy clean up.
I use the stove top. I love them burned to a crisp when I do them. She can J. hold them over the heat but further away then I do it.
I've been to campouts where they used chips ahoy cookies instead of graham crackers and choc.
at easter time, stock up on peeps when they go on clearance and freeze them. They are an awesome alternative to the marshmallow! I have also tried them with peanut butter cups and absolutely love them.
We've made smores with our gas stove, gas fireplace, and propane grill and they all turned out great. I would worry about doing it directly over a candle flame because they often have chemicals for color and scent in them.
My favorite variation is to use Andes mint chocolate squares. Yum! My son's scout troop makes smacos(smore tacos) by putting chocolate chips and small marshmallows in a flour tortilla folded in half, then cooking it on a griddle.
I think I'm the only person on the planet that HATES s'mores! So I don't have any suggestions. However, J. want to wish you a FUN party! =)
@Veronica P. -- We ( and by that I mean M.) NEED that Pinterest recipe. Please, pretty please with chocolate chip s'more cookie on top, give us the Pinterest link!!
I recenlty saw in the freezer aisle (maybe) a s'mores pizza that would solve some of the guess work/logistics of it all. It was from Guy Fiery(sp?) from the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" host
Another option: my Mom used to cook the marshmallow and put it in between two chocolate chip cookies....Super Yummy and easy.
You can make teeny tiny smores over the kitchen table with a few candles (utility candles not any weird scented ones that would interfere with the smores experience). Everyone gets a toothpick and roasts their mini marshmallow over the candle. Then you put it between two teddy grahams with a chocolate chip and. Voila! Tiny smore. I always liked that version because I don't looove smores so that was a better serving size for M.!
Another tip is to spread nutella on the Graham instead of chocolate. It always bothered M. that my smores chocolate wouldn't melt. I hate that!
My MIL bought us a s'more maker a couple years ago - it uses sterno. We made s'mores with it last spring, worked great! Only problem was no more than 2 people could roast at a time, but your box idea fixes that (might have to steal that idea!)
I *think* they are called redneck s'mores - you use saltine crackers instead of graham. They are wonderful, the salty/sweet combo is heaven. I've also used chocolate frosting instead of chocolate bars, it melts better and faster.
