Try rubbing a slice of lemon in her underarm before shower time and try baking soda after baths. Really works!
Hello everyone!!!
I have never heard anyone talk about this but my daughter is 3 1/2 now. With the summer upon us she is running around and sweating a lot. I put baby powder around her neck and under her arms to stop her from having smelly arms. It worked fine with keeping her dry last year but its not working so well this year. This is her first time at school and she must be playing very hard by the way she smells lol I don't say anything to her just tell her that we have to wash up before dinner but the smell under her arms is very bad.
I know she is to young for deoderant and I have also tried corn starch...nothing is working. Any advise?

Is it a sweaty kid smell, or a grown up "you really need to use deoderant" smell? Some little kids just smell bad when they sweat. My 9 year old has to use deoderant, and has for about 2 years, because her pits smell like an adult who didn't use deoderant. My 7 year old son plays hard, and does not get that adult body odor, but definately has to bath everyday when it's warm out. So maybe it's just a normal kid sweaty smell. Consider also that the powder can hold in smells and cause it to be worse. She might be better off without the powder. Instead, when she takes a break from playing, to help her cool down, wipe the most smelly areas with a cool wet wash cloth or baby wipe. If it's truly an adult sweaty smell you might mention it to her doctor. It's not unheard of, although rare, for a child this young to have the beginning signs of puberty.
Also, as the person below me stated, it is possible that what she eats is being excreted through her skin. If she eats a lot of food with garlic, onion, curry, or other spices, that could be the cause.
I have the same problem with my 3yr old daughter, I was thinking of posting but I am glad you did. I would love to read the responses you get, in the meantime I am using gold bond powder not much luck.

But ater researching, it seems that if your daughter is smelling that foul that you feel she may need deodorant at this early age , perhaps you should talk to the doctor,
I have 3 BOYS ages 12, 2 and 4 years old,
None of them smell badly enough for me to introduce deodorants yet,
and believe me they sweat and play hard,
After school we change out outfit to clean play clothes,
and bathe (not just wash up) before bedtime.
That seems to do the trick for us.

13. What do I do about excess sweating?
All people past puberty experience axillary (armpit) sweat and odour, and these are normal bodily functions. Excessive armpit sweating is known as axillary hyperhidrosis and is a variation of the normal sweating process. We understand that this can be a distressing problem for those who suffer from it. Whilst antiperspirants can be effective in reducing normal levels of armpit sweating, there are occasions when the body requires something stronger.
My cousin and I when younger had the same issue...my mom used this cream 'Mitchum' and it solved the issue.
I'm betting it's something she is eating that is causing this reaction! Keep in mind that the skin is an organ of excretion. Does she eat large amounts of animal products or dairy? How is her digestion? A pracitioner of chinese medicine might be able to help you get some answers.
I have never heard of this problem in a child. But, maybe a deodorant would be ok?? I only use Tom's of Maine deodorant because the amount of aluminum in most regular deodorants concerns me.
Tom's of Maine products are natural, and they even make one that is fragrance free. They are NOT an antiperspirant, only deodorant.
You can find the brand most anymore, check Target.
I would consult her pediatrician first, before trying it.
I will tell you my 1 1/2 year old daughter uses it all the time, in an effort to do EXACTLY everything I do on a daily basis. We were able to 'trick' her for awhile and apply it with the cap on, but she caught onto that pretty quick. lol
She has never had an adverse reaction, but then again, the amount that actually goes on her skin is very minimal.
Good Luck!
Hi
My pediatrician told me that whn my 5-yr old daughter began to "Stink" a bit, he said not to worry. She said as long as the child is showing no other signs of puberty, she is fine and OTC depderant could not hurt. So, I bought her a "teen spirit" brand deoderant and she would (sometimes) use it. She is 8 now and more active and somehow, "the stink" just went away!! I also make them all bathe daily in the summer.
