Smelly Towels

Hello mommies -

I know this sounds like a silly thing to ask, but I have been hunting for a solution for my smelly towels and dish towels. It seems that this mildewy smell has attached itself to the towels and once they are used and sit slightly wet, the smell comes right back. My friends here on the south shore have the same problem so I'm wondering if it's the water. Does anyone have any solutions? Thank you all for your help!!! E.

What can I do next?

I have the same issue, I am in Pembroke... it drives me CRAZY!!

I have only done this a few times, most other laundry day's I just don't have the time... but if you soak the towels overnight then wash them they smell better... BUT they do smell again! We hang ours up too, I don't get it!

If you do get a good solution... PLEASE SHARE!!

Try vinegar (white) in the wash and see if it helps. It is suppose to help.
Do you all leave the washer lid closed or down (depends on the washer style). I read this will help with the lingering odor in the washer.

I have had the same problem since I moved to the South Shore. Try washing them in hot water...it seems to help.

I live in Buzzards Bay and I too have noticed lately that my towels just can't make it one day before they start to smell, especially in our brand new addition of our house!!I try to wash them as quickly as I can and make sure that they do not sit in the washer I also add fabric softener to any load with towels it really helps.
Good Luck I might try and take the advice to white vinegar too!
