Hello, Mamas! I'm thinking of getting a smart phone in a few months. I want texting and web access for email and surfing. Which phones and plans do you like?

What can I do next?

I have a blackberry with AT&T for work and an iPhone 3G for personal use with T-Mobile. Most service providers can unlock iPhones so you don't have to necessarily use AT&T if you don't want to. I prefer my iPhone hands down. I don't have a problem with AT&T coverage but T-Mobile offered a better service plan for my needs for less money.

Whatever phone you get, get one with the Android operating system! My husband and I LOVE our Android phones. He had an iPhone for a while, but once I got my Android he was SO jealous hehe Android has SO many free apps that are really good.

We have AT&T, and I've never had any problems with them. I've been with them since 2002. I think every carrier has it's ups & downs in every area.

Our plan has unlimited texting and unlimited data. It's $30 per phone. But, I think carriers are taking/have taken away the unlimited plans?? We are grandfathered in, thankfully!

You definitely want as much data access you can afford, if you don't have the option for unlimited. Using apps & playing games, downloading the apps, using the internet for web browsing or email... they all add up QUICK.

I've had a Motorola Charm for a couple of months and have been really happy with it. It doesn't have all the functionality of some of the more expensive phones, but I have good internet acess, 3G capable; and, of course, phone and text.

I am with tMobile and have a pretty good plan...unlimited talk, text, and internet for around $75. I've been a customer for a long time, so it wasn't much to add the unlimited internet.

We have IPhones at our house and love them.

Hubby's plan runs about $170/month with the data, unlimited texting, etc and higher minutes.

My plan includes daughter and runs about $195/month with data plans, unlimited texting, etc and lower minutes.

I love it. When we go on a trip, I don't have to carry my lightweight laptop, I just have my phone!

Hope this helped.

I have an iPhone 3Gs that I've really enjoyed, but I HATE AT&T COVERAGE!!!!!! I always had Verizon and never had a problem, and now I drop calls constantly, have all sorts of static, etc. As soon as our contract is up, if iPhone hasn't brought Verizon on board, we will be switching to the Droid. Upon researching I actually liked the Droid phones better, but it was a huge savings to go on my husband's iPhone plan, so I did. So -the actual iphone is fine and I've liked it, but I want my Verizon back!

I just got my i phone three months ago and I am in love! I am going to change my plan though, because I am getting a lot of roll over minutes. The mobile to mobile plus friends and family make it hard to use all of my minutes. :) This will make my bill probably around 80.00.

Anyway, since this is my first experience with a smart phone, I am most impressed by the web access. It is great to find a phone number of a business and then if you tap on the phone number it asks if you want to call it. So, no memorizing numbers, just tap and go.

I also used the Maps feature when we were in Kauai. It was great to be able to see where our destination was and where we were. Gave us the confidence to know that we would get to where we wanted to go.

No matter what you choose, since this is your first smart phone, you will love whatever you get. They are so liberating!

I have had a Motorola Droid on Verizon for almost a year and love it! I had a blackberry on AT&T before and while I liked the blackberry, the Droid has so much more capability. I really love it and use it all the time. Also, I hated AT&T - Verizon coverage is far superior. Good luck!

I have Verizon's Droid, I love it, does everything you want and more. We have 4 people on our account and pay about $185, not too bad for all of us. We got ours buy one get one free too so it made it a good deal.

I also vote for the I-phone. I have a 3g and AT&T coverage and love it all. It's truly a smart phone.

Today I was going out of town to a friends house - I got to the subdivision, forget which way to turn, grabbed the phone, pulled up my friend's address and after one click on the address the phone popped me up a map showing her house and where I was idling in the street two blocks away.

Gotta' love a phone that shows you where you are.
