Hi All,

My hubby is in med-school. His friends have been talking about taking a cruise together, booking early, etc. They're all students, so they're probably looking at something reasonable, not a high-end disney. We do have an almost 7 year old who would come with us.

Do you know of a travel agent? Kid friendly cruise-line? Any idea what counts as a small group or qualifies for a discount? Thanks!

What can I do next?

We recently went on a cruise with Carnival, out of Galveston and loved it! Tons of fun things for every age group! Carnival is supposed to be one of the lines with the best value, for your money. Royal Caribbean and Norwegian are also supposed to be really fun and pretty reasonably priced. We didn't go in a "group" so I'm not sure but I want to say the group prices started at around 15 people or more. Go to www.vacationstogo.com. You may have to open an account with them first, but it's free, and you can do all sorts of searches by cruise line, dates, places, price, duration, etc. They also have info on every cruise ship out there, with lists of their amenities, and floorplans of the different cabins. Also go to www.cruisecritic.com and the websites of any lines you might be interested in (Carnival.com, etc). They usually have forums where you can ask any question imaginable and past cruisers will answer them. They are very helpful and you can learn a lot. You can also call Vacations To Go and speak to their people who can recommend a cruise to you based on your wants and needs. Do your research. There is a LOT of information out there and it can be overwhelming, but it's so worth it when you step foot on that ship for the first time! Let us know what you guys decide!

I have found Carnival to be a booze cruise. Very young, big drinkers. Did two short cruises with them and said never again. Norwegian is a nice mix of young and middle age folks. Holland American tends to be an elderly group. My choice would be Norwegian if they go from Galveston. Prices vary depending on when. Inside cabins are the cheapest. You can call and ask about group rates. Have fun.
