MORNING!
i just noticed my 5 yr old has a small boil on his gum ( lower gum, in the very front), the tooth that is the closest to the boil is turning a darker color than the rest!
any thoughts!
i will be taking to the pedi today, but not sure if need to make an appointment with dentist.

What can I do next?

I'd be taking him to the dentist instead of the pedi. The Ped wil probably refer you to the dentist anyway.

I am a dental hygienist and it sounds like the tooth is dying and has an infection called an abscess. The boil is called a fistula and it is how the infection is draining. It most likely occurred through some type of trauma to the tooth. I would take him to the dentist. The pediatrician will just refer you there. They may extract the tooth or do a pulpotomy (similar to a root canal). Sorry :(

It's probably an abscess....mine had on on the gum of his top tooth, injured years before, and the tooth was finally dying. It had to be pulled.
Get him to the dentist.

it sounds more like an absessed tooth than a boil. I would def take him to the dentist.

It sounds like an absess.

I'm glad you're getting him in to be seen.

Best wishes.

See a dentist asap.
Sounds like an abscess and I hope he doesn't lose the tooth (if it's an adult tooth, but even if it's a baby tooth, the infection could affect his developing adult teeth).

I'd see the dentist, if I were you. Do you have a pediatric dentist? That would be best.

Good luck!

If his tooth is turning darker, most likely it is a dental problem, like an abscess. Most likely the pedi will refer it to the dentist.

I wouldn't bother with the pedi, I'd take him to the dentist.

Get some DENTAL PASTE from your doctor. its prescription only. Its probably a canker sore. I get them all the time. They are VERY painful! the only thing that has ever STOPPED the pain completely and lasted for hours and sometimes days even is that stuff. Its topical, and for some reason i really think it makes them heal up a lot faster. Sometimes a canker sore can come from brushing the gums to hard and you get a sore and it gets infected causing a caker sore. There are many ways to get them.
