Sleeping with Blankets

I have 7 month year old twins (born about 2 months early) and I am wondering when is a good time to let them sleep with their blankets all night? They currently sleep at night on acid reflux wedges but I am considering trying to let them sleep in their cribs without the wedges. They use a blanket when they are napping but I am so leary of letting them have it at night while I am asleep. They love their blankets! Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Honestly -- I'm sure I'll take flack from SOMEONE about it.... but I had a blanket in with both of my boys pretty much from the time they were born. When he was still little, I'd put it at an angle...so it looked like a triangle instead of a square and lie him in the middle of it so that part of it was under him and if he schooched around in the crib, it'd just go down rather than work it's way up...they both are snuggly blanket hogs now -- 8 years and almost 3...

My daughter has slept with a blanket since she was about 4 months old. All the other mothers will be send me "no-no" e-mail after telling that I'm sure! She LOVES her blanket. As long as she has it she is good to go!

K.,

I was in the same boat about 6 wks ago with my soon to be 8 month old son. We started letting him sleep with a small 12"x12" blanket with a bear head for comfort about 6 wks ago. He sleeps with a humidifier in his room and when I went to get him up in the morning I would notice he was cold, even in a long sleeve sleeper. I just resently started putting a light weight receiving blanket on him after he has fallen asleep.

My son doesn't move very much after he falls asleep anymore, so thats when I know he would be ok with sleeping with one. I make sure that I don't put it up over his shoulders though, and I kind of tuck it in around him. I would start with a stuffed animal or small blankey for comfort first and then go from there. As long as they know to turn there heads when they get to close to something then you should be fine.

Good Luck,
J.

Both of mine had blankets with them from about 6 months or so.
If you're really worried...what if you cut a small part of the blanket off and hem it up? That way it's not a huge bunch of material with them. I wished I had done this for my daughter since we were always lugging around this huge blanket. So, her grandmother made her a little scarf one Christmas out of the same type of material as her favorite blankie and she used it just like she did her big blanket. It soon became known as the "scarf blankie."

My daughter started sleeping with a blankey when she was 4months. She needed it swaddled around her to go to sleep. Shortly after that she started sucking her thumb and became attached to her favorite 'old bahdy-bahdy' <don't ask where that came from, but that's what she called it!> and we couldn't go ANYWHERE without it!

I think it's fine to do it whenever you feel comfortable. I'd say 7 months is old enough, but you are their mom and you know what's best for your babies. Oh, one more thing, make sure it's a lightweight one! You don't want to be lugging around a 50lb blanket or two when they get older like my mom did! ;) heehee But mom said I gave up my blankey when she forced ME to start carrying it!!

If your not comfortable with it yet then don't do it. That is what I tell myself, I have a 6 1/2 month old baby girl. If they are sleeping ok at night then just let it be, if you think they may sleep better with their blanket then I think it would be fine. As long as it's not real fluffy and heavy. Maybe wait a little while until your more comfy with it. ( :
