I posted a request regarding a 3yo staying in bed at night and now I'd like to know if anyone uses a standard size pillow with their 3yo? My husband but one in his toddler bed the other night, and now he sleeps better, but I'm afraid it's too big for him. Any advice?

We moved our oldest to a captains bed at the age of 2 and when he was transitioned we gave him standard sized pillows. I think that if your child is able to move around, which I think 3yrs is capable of) then there shouldn't be any harm in giving them a pillow. And it's wonderful that he sleeps better for you too :) Good Luck!

My daughter has been using a standard size pillow for a long time now. She is also three but when she got a cold when last year we had propped her up on a couple of pillows to help with the congestion and since then one pillow has always remained with her in the crib (we are about to make the transition to a big girl bed later this summer).

I would just worry about the pillow being too think and if that could be uncomfortable for his neck but otherwise I think standard size pillows that are not too thick and overly plush should be just fine.

Good luck!

I gave my daughter a standard pillow as soon as she went to a twin bed, when she was around two and a half. She never had a pillow in her crib and never had a toddler bed. I see no reason for an adult pillow to be a problem for him.

But as with anyone, you might want to buy a couple of different firmenss to see if he has a preference. Or ask a chiropractor or a pediatrician if one is better than another. I would think in general firm is better for the spine. I read once that people in general shouldn't sleep with pillows and sleeping flat was better for the spine than having a pillow. But that is a pretty extreme change for most of us :)

My pediatrician said as L. as your child is old enough to move if they need to, which at 3 yrs old they are, its fine to put a pillow in their crib or bed. My 1 yr old has 2 small pillows in his crib.

My 2 yr old uses a pillow. They are thin so that if she sleeps on her belly, it isn't an issue.
