I have a 4.5 year old and a 5 month old. They both always slept on their tummies from birth. They slept better that way and would always wake up when on their backs.
I know babies should be sleeping on their backs. When can you let them sleep on their bellys? I'm told its when they can roll from their belly to their back. Is this right? I'm assuming they will pick the best position when they can roll from belly to back and vice versa.

I put my kids on their bellies earlier than they say to. It was the only way they'd stay asleep. At 6 mos. you should be okay. I have heard that the roll over milestone is the gauge to use.
My kids absolutely refused to sleep on their backs when they were babies ... my son is 3 and my daughter 20 months, so I guess they can be considered babies, but they would not sleep unless on their tummies. If your little guy can roll over (which most kids can at 6 months) then don't worry about him sleeping on his tummy. If you're really worried or concerned about it, talk to your boy's doctor and see what they have to say. That's what they're there for. Good luck and happy holidays!
A lot of times they roll over on their own. You really have to just make sure that there is no blankets or pillows anywhere near their heads...or stuffed animals or anything that could suffocate them. Sometimes even crib bumpers can do that...its scary to not know, but they don't always cooperate when it comes to sleeping on their backs. If your baby does roll over...just make sure there is nothing that can suffocate them and try to keep a pretty close eye on them. Thats what I had to do because mine wouldnt lay on their backs for very long. Hope it helps hun
