I am having a hard time getting my 2 year old to get enough sleep. I put her to bed at 7:30 each night because she has to be up by 6:00 AM to go to daycare. When I put her to bed she stays awake in her crib and talks until like 9:00 sometimes. Then she wakes up at 6:00 and she is really cranky! I have tired rocking her to sleep and rubbing her back to sleep even but she is restless and won't fall asleep even though she is rubbing her eyes and she is clearly tired. She does nap in during the day for about 2 hours and when she goes down for nap she just falls right asleep. I thought about taking her nap away but she just seems too young for that. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

You didn't say how long this has been her routine, but if it has only been a couple weeks that she needs to get up so early, she may just need time to learn the pattern is early to bed, early to rise. People have all different natural sleep patterns, and she may be more of a night owl, but if it is a new routine than she should adjust. What I have learned by doing it the wrong way is that consistency is key. At least she is talking and not screaming for an hour!

I have the same exact issue. I had to take her out of the crib as well because she was able to climb out. Bedtime is turning into a 2 hour event.

You might have to do what I did with my 2 yr old. Don't take away the naps she is obviously still tired. Being overly tired will make her fight sleep. But with my son I do have to raise my voice and say lay down. Yes he cries and whines but he complies. She is talking to keep herself awake. It is a form of fighting sleep.

Try making her nap shorter :)

I would suggest putting her down earlier before she hits her second wind that's keeping her up. My daughter turned 5 in Jan. She just now is giving up her afternoon nap. If we are in the car, she will fall asleep, but at daycare it's done. She gets up at 545am for daycare and I've found that by starting her bedtime routine around 630/645 to have her laying in bed, stories done, and doing the 2 song snuggle w/ me by 7pm she falls asleep much better. If I keep her up later, she will have a harder time falling asleep.
