Ok This question is for mature mothers i am not looking for smart or negative comments. I have started a bad habit by letting my daughter sleep with her cup.. i already know i've messed up and i want to stop it cause she's done it long enough. If anyone has done this please help me with advice on how you change that routine.

What can I do next?

I think it's fine if it's just water in the cup. I do that with my 4 yr old. He gets thirsty overnight.

Whatever you do - take it away, or change to water - do it cold turkey. Phasing it out will only prolong the reaction from your daughter, and she'll start looking for creative ways to get it.
Just stop it all together. She'll protest, but adjust after a few days.

I would just make sure that her cup has water in it and not milk. Milk will rot her teeth. As long as the cup doesn't leak, water should be fine to take to bed.

Not sure why you think you've messed up. My kids (now 20, 18, 15) STILL like to bring a drink to bed with them. Sometimes you get thirsty, you know? I certainly do. Now they grab a water bottle out of the fridge, maybe try that?

Put her to bed without her cup. Replace it with a stuffed animal or blanket. She will get used to it in a few days.

I love having a drink beside my bed at night. Sometimes I drink from it, sometimes I don't, but I always sleep better knowing it's there.

Our boys (6 and almost 4) usually have a sippy cup when they go to bed. I swear some mornings they only had it for comfort, but other mornings the cups are empty.

No need to worry :-)

I agree with the others. You have to decide to do it and then just do it. I like to have water beside my bed. My 7 year old will get up occasionally and get a drink too. Sometimes we get thirsty. Give her water in her cup or take it away. Don't make and issue of it just tell her this is the way it will be and go with it. She will fuss and complain but stick to your guns and she will be fine in a week or so.

I didn't. It doesn't hurt anything for them to have it. If they are holding in their mouth all night with milk or juice dripping onto their teeth then you may have milk rot. That is where it comes from, dripping milk all night, or holding the bottle/cup in their mouth all the time.

If you want to stop this then you have to just take it away. Be prepared to not sleep again for at least a month though. She won't like it. She would normally give it up when she's ready to be done with it.

I let the kids do it until they were done with all that. My grandson stopped around 2-2 1/2 years old. His teeth were perfect at his last appointment. He did have some cavities in the area between a couple of teeth but that was fixed. He has not had any issues since. I have bad teeth, his M. has bad teeth, his dad has okay teeth so he is sort of inherited a probable tendency to have bad teeth. But they are perfect now and have been the last 3 dental appointments.
