My daughter is 10 weeks old and her sleeping and eatin patterns have not changed much at all..it seems that she eats about every 1 and half to 2 hours and her naps during the day are like 45 min intervals..she sleeps great at night though only eating 3 or so times I try to feed her 10 min on each side but sometimes she seems full after one side..I'll burp her and put her on the ohter side but she only eats for a couple minutes..is that why she is eating so often?

What can I do next?

It's normal for babies this young to eat often. Their tummies are very small, and can only hold so much, and then it digests and is gone. And every time she goes through a growth spurt, she'll go back to eating every 2 hours. And the fact that she's only eating 3 times at night means a lot ... she's on the right kind of schedule (night sleeping, more awake in the day), and she seems to be getting plenty in the day. Just keep going with it, she'll be fine :)

Breastmilk is digested faster than formula. Baby needs to eat every couple hours at most. Their stomach is the size of their fist, very small, so it doesn't hold much per feeding.
I would feed her at one breast until she stops on her own, do not look at the clock. The longer she nurses the more fattier hind milk she gets. Burp her and offer the second breast, she may not want it. My 3 got very good at getting what they needed each feeding from just one breast per feeding and I would then offer the opposite breast the next feeding.
The fact that she's not eating all night means she's getting lots of nutrition during the day. This is a good thing.

Congratulations on your new baby!

She sounds like she's doing just fine. I agree Katrina, though. Just feed on oneside until she's done. If she seems like she wants more, offer her the other. At the next feeding, offer her the side that didn't get emptied. The lactation consultants in the hospital often give guidelines like feeding on each side for 10 minutes. I've found that many of their guidelines (but not all) are designed to help you get started. After baby is a few weeks old, mom's usually have a much better sense of what their doing and what their baby wants and needs.

You're doing great!

I have a 12 week old and she's feeding less often than that and sleeping much longer stretches (2-6 hours at a time). At about 8-9 weeks I started doing the 5Ss from the Karp book (happiest baby on the block) and it was a life saver. She was so fussy and having days where she would barely sleep at all and I felt more like a pacifier than a food source. Once I started swaddling and rocking to sleep, she slept for longer periods. I still nurse on demand and haven't imposed a schedule on her, just let one emerge. My three year old was sleeping in long stretches too at this age, only awake about 2 hours before tired and needing to sleep but then slept for hours at a time.
Good luck!

I haven't read the other responses, so maybe you've already gotten this: Your baby is eating so often because she's still an infant. Ten weeks of life with a tiny baby can seem to go so slowly when you're the one caring for that baby, but in the grand scheme of things, it's hardly a drop in the bucket. Give her time. It sounds like you're doing a great job. There's an excellent site for breastfeeding information. It's http://kellymom.com

Best wishes,

S. :+)

I'm jealous. My 5 month old just started sleeping that well at night. he also only nurses on one side at a time and would nurse every 2 hours all day and night until recently at about 3.5 months he started eating less during the day and still waking every 2 hours at night and we are JUST now to where he will only nurse every 4 hours or so and the past 2 nights he has skipped a nightly feeding, night 1 he skipped his 5 am and last night he slept through his 2 am 9so he actually slept from his 1030 feeding all the way till 5 am!!!!)
