Cost Plus World Market sells a stylish and comfy sleeper sofa. It even has storage for linens. It runs for about 500 bucks.
My husband has decided that the man cave we just redecorated (our basement) just doesn't work for him as a office and would like to take over our guest bedroom instead. Don't get me started on how long it took him to fix it up only to have me contact a painter to finish the job right. We do not have any relatives nearby so when they stay it usually is for more than a night. I haven't slept on a sofa sleeper in ages and I don't have fond memories. However, times have changed and I was wondering if anyone would have a suggestion on a comfortable sofa sleeper, if one even exists. Thanks in advance.

I would have to also agree with getting a Lay-Z-boy. We purchased a new one just a couple of months ago and love it. We bought the Daphne model and it is very comfortable to sit on. In fact I have spent a few sick nights sleeping on just the sofa and even that was pretty darn comfy. As far as the mattress, we did not opt to upgrade to the blow up mattress, although it seemed really nice and comfy, because we have a guest room, this is for the nieces or nephews that come with the parents. Now if this was for the adults we would have spent the money on the upgrade. Overall, I am really happy we went with the Lay-Z-boy. It was more expensive, but it came with a good warranty, it had great reviews and so far anything that has been spilled on it has come right off(I have a 6 and 2 yr old).
After doing alot of searching, we finally purchased a sofa sleeper from la-z-boy. Its was def more expensive but figured it was probably worth it to have the good name, warranty, ect. We just had family stay with us for 5 days over thanksgiving and my sister said it was comfortable. By the fifth night, however, she did have a somewhat sore back. I'm not sure if that can be avoided really, with a sofa sleeper. One option would be to do the upgrade (which we did not do) to a better mattress system. Its alot more expensive so we didnt think it would be worth it just for the occasional guest. We have considered buying a foam topper to put on there when used, but again, not sure that its worth the extra money for howmuch we will use it. I also suggest looking into futons. Ours is actually quite comfortable. My mom slept on it for the 5 days, and there wasn't a complaint! I think a pro to a futon is that there are no springs or anything to feel on your back. However, there is not much support either for a bigger person. I wish you luck in your search!
Whatever model you choose can be enhanced with a sleeper sofa mattress topper. We have a memory foam one and it significantly enhances the comfort factor of the mattress. Everyone who sleeps on it tells us we have the most comfortable pull out couch mattress ever!
I was just looking through a Room and Board catalog the other day and they have nice sleeper sofas but they are more expensive. If you are on a budget then I am sure that IKEA probably has sleeper sofas.
Try Room and Board. They have sleeper sofas with a combination innerspring mattress topped with a high-quality air mattress that you inflate when you open the bed. We have one. Our families live far away so when we have overnight guests they are usually here for a week or so and the sleeper sofa has worked very well as a bed. It's also comfortable to sit on as a couch. Good luck.
We have a futon sofa in our basement that changes into a double bed. Everyone who visits says that it was very comfortable. We had a futon for a bed for years and I also thought it was surprisingly comfortable.
Skip the sleeper sofa and just get one of those raised inflatable matresses. You can put bedding on them just like a real bed and it will be much more comfortable for you guests, not to mention cheaper for you. I wish I had done that, but instead i'm stuck with a crappy sofa that's just as uncomfortable to sit on as it is to sleep on.
We bought a chocolate colored microsuede L-shaped sectional sofa with queen sleeper from JC Penny about 6 months ago. We love it. Very comfortable couch, versatile for decorating and it seems someone in the family ends up falling asleep on on the couch most every night! The sleeper looks fairly typical. I have not slept on the sleeper part yet, but others have and haven't complained. We've been very pleased with it.
We got an awesome one through Bassett Furniture. There are no bars (correction: there is one to hold it all up, but it's not going across the bottom of the mattress), just bands and a mesh liner across the bottom holding the mattress, so it's super comfortable. My parents are really fussy and even they sleep well on our sleeper sofa. We get a lot of compliments from guests on how comfortable it is. It's nothing like the horrible sleeper sofas of the past.
Definitely don't opt for the air mattresses like AeroBed unless you're prepared to buy new ones every couple of years. Our AeroBed eventually leaked (in the middle of the night, for my in-laws ... sigh) and once I shared our story with friends I heard a lot more stories of them leaking. That's when we decided to invest in a good sleeper sofa instead.
We bought a Lay -Z- Boy sofa.....not cheap.....but it has a blow up mattress inside a regular mattress cover........blows up in a minute and deflates quickly too........ Not the most comfortable sitting I ever seen (any sofa that has a bed in it is a little bit harder than just cushions) but is the best at sleeping!!!!! Inexpensive way to go.....I agree with previous responses......... raised blow up mattress....!!!
