Sleep Walking and Screaming

My 5 year old daughter sleep walks at night and just plain out screams about 4 times a night. It wasn't really that big of a deal till we moved the baby into her room and now she wakes her sister up even though she is still asleep! I don't know what to do. It scares me so much when I was up and she is standing beside my bed asleep, or in the bathroom or she falls out of bed and I go check on her and she is still sleeping. Any advice would be much appreciated!!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Last night we sprayed a "monster spray" called Nasal Mist :-) and she didn't scream any. She did sleep walk and go into the kitchen then our bed but at least it cut out the screaming last night. Now as long as this stays like this and the sleep walking stops It will be better

i was a sleep walker as a child, i would usually go into kitchen and randomly pour things into bowls, my mother was afraid that i would try to use the oven and rigged a system that would alert a timer when i had entered the kitchen at night, i don't know how help ful thi will be, my problem stopped on its own. perhaps put the baby in your room for the time being until a conclusion or treatment can be devised for your 5 yr old , good luck

A....3 years ago when my son was 9, he suddenly began to have night terrors and sleep walking. At that time someone was harrassing him on the bus and his younger brother had fractured his collarbone. My point is sometimes it happens due to a change or something stressful. It eventually subsided on it's own after a few weeks, but it was horrible. Try talking to her, now that she is sharing her room it has changed her routine and does not know quite how to handle it. Maybe try spending some extra one one time...maybe reading to help her relax. Good luck!

Hi A., Do you pray? If you do pray over your daughter and her sleep walking. I had a friend that her daughter did it last year and after a few weeks of praying over it she quit sleep walking.

I've not had to deal with this particular problem, but I read an excellent book called Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems, by Richard Ferber, and it referenced these problems in particular. Don't let the fact that it's by the Babywise guy scare you; the book was actually a very understanding treatment of sleep problems in children. He explains a whole lot about sleep cycles and what's occuring to cause the problems, then tells you how to fix them. I highly recommend it!

Well bless your heart. My daughter has done this for awhile and is 8 years old now. She sleep walks through the house, mostly through the kitchen (sometimes opens refrigerator door) turns around and back into bed, with some talking, never do I understand any. On occasion she will lay in the recliner. I have noticed in the last year she has gotten better, but not sure why unless she is growing out of it. I pray your daughter and mine will grow out of it, keep me informed I wish I could truly help. I know its tuff with babies in same room but putting the baby in your room might be good for now.

I have a friend whose son has night terrors which is similar to what you are describing. He can not have anything "red" to drink. Changes this one thing stopped his problem. Definately something to consider and ask your pedi about.
