Dear all,
our almost 11mo. old son wakes up every 20min. at night screeming. Motrin, teething tablets, water, paci, taking him to our bad don't really help. He sleeps in his own crib, falls asleep on his own, wakes up pretty happy. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

How long has this been going on? Is he fed close to the time you put him down? waking up every 20 minutes can be a sign of acid reflux.

Have you taken him to have his spine checked? If there is something in his body that is making him uncomfortable, chances are your chiropractor can do a quick check and if necessary treatment that will help to resolve the problem.

Nigh terrors? I'm not sure:( Hang in there and have him checked out by the doc just in case there is something else going on.

My friends kid did the same thing. He was fine unless you turned out the light, then he would scream. He was one and he still had trouble sleeping till about 2 maybe three, my friend let him sleep on the couch, he thought there was something under the bed, and he had to watch blues clues video. He just turned 8 and is doing okay now with the light being off. I think about 4 he got to be okay.

Sounds like you need to stop going in there and let him cry it out. You may think he's too young to pick up on the fact that you go in there and he's not. They get it very quickly that if they cry you come running.

Hi A., I have a almost 3 year granddaughter and she wakes up and climbs out of her bed and runs to parents bedroom. I purchased a book and it said to put them in bed, don't touch them to console them and don't even look at them and turn and walk out. The book said the first night the father did this 42 times, the second night it was over 100 times and the third night the child stayed in bed. This all wears parents out as well as the child. Our kids never tried it as far as I know but now she is in a big girl's bed and is doing quite well. Good luck

Is he having acid reflux? Both of my kids had it and eventually had to be on medication. Slightly elevating the head of the crib helped. I would also let them nap during the day in their bouncy seats or in a reclined position in the stroller, and they would sleep just fine. It was when they were flat on their backs that they woke up screaming.

if this has been going on fairly recently, i presume an ear infection may be to blame. i dont know when your last check up was for him, but it never hurts to go get an ear check. its usually pretty fast and if that ends up being the problem, youre on your way to blissful sleep happiness. as for me, my son who is now 14 months, was almost sleeping through the night until about 6 months, then he started only sleeping for very short time periods. at night he still doesnt sleep through..and he wakes up at least twice. i atrribute this to nursing, but last time we did find out he had an ear infection and it seemed to be part of why he was waking up more often. anyway, good luck!
