My 3 year old son has had sleeping issues off and on for about a year. My pedi ruled out night terrors, but did not have any other ideas. He wakes up in hysteria often. My husband and I are severely sleep deprived. I don't know if we need a sleep doctor or psychologist or what. Any suggestions on where to go for help??

Has he had an actual sleep study? If not, that would probably be the best place to start and that can be performed at Medical City Dallas. Also, I would recommend an evaluation with Developmental Pediatrician, Dr. Lisa Genecov at Medical City. I'm sorry, I don't have her # at hand, but if you would like to call me Monday at ###-###-####,I can give you her information. Hope that helps!

I pray over my child as she is falling asleep. I sing Jesus loves me over her. When you call on the name of the Lord the demon have to flee. I don't know your situation, but your son may not be sleeping because he does not have peace. When he goes to sleep at night try speaking the name of Jesus over him and calling upon the angels to stand guard around his bed.
If you do not know Jesus as your personal savior, I invite you to come to our church River of Glory in Plano. We meet on Sunday at 10:30.
I know Jesus can bring peace and rest back into your home. If you have any questions or just want to talk please email me.
God Bless,
M.

You could try contacting The Sleep Lady at ____@____.com puts out a newsletter over the internet and she is also available for phone consults. I didn't talk to her by phone, as I was able to download her book and that was enough to help with our problems. Good luck!

Hi there, I am sorry to hear about this! I went out the Children's Medical Center site and found this link

http://www.childrens.com/patients_families/healthinfo/ind...

If you don't find a contact in Plano, the Children's site is fairly easy to use and you could find a mental health provider on that site. Children's is a GREAT facility and they are almost ready to open phase one of the Plano-Legacy campus!

Good luck!

Hi, Ashley! I used to work at Children's Medical Center in Dallas and, as I recall, they have the only sleep lab for kids in the region. It definitely sounds like your child is having some sleep-disorder issues, which isn't unusual and can be fixed. I saw them do wonderful things for kids they assessed in the lab. It's run by Dr. John Herman, who is a recognized expert in pediatric sleep disorders.

All the information is available at www.childrens.com; just click on the 'find a service' link in the upper right corner and then select 'sleep disorders.' But also, here's their number:

I hope this helps!

I know it must be tough. I have 2 with sleep issues. Will your child take medication? If so, try 1 mg. of melotonin. Or, there are other sleep alternatives at Vitamin World. I took my son to a sleep clinic but he was older. They put a lot of electrodes on the body and that might scare him just as much. My youngest is scared of sleeping upstairs even though there are 2 older siblings up there, so she sleeps downstairs. They grow out of most things. It is more painful on you than on them.

How's your son's developement otherwise? Do loud noises or noisy groups seem to bother him during the daytime? Does he have a tendency to do things repetitiously?

I used to do child care for a couple whose son had problems sleeping at night. They were severely sleep deprived, as you describe. The boy was later diagnosed with Autism/asberger syndrome. You might try researching the characteristics of this disorder to see if he could fall into early signs. The child I worked with is doing well now and will soon be mainstreamed in the public school system. He's a delightful child and extremely smart.

I'm just throwing this out there to consider, but is your son on any medication? I just took my 6 mos. old daughter off Prevacid for reflux because she was having major sleep issues. A side effect apparently is nightmares, insomnia, and wierd dreams...just a thought.
