Sleep Disruption and Potty Traiing?

Hello-
We have begun potty training with our 21/2 yr old this week (Monday) For a few nights since he's been getting up very early. One night 4:45, another 2am, than 5am. I do not think it's night terrors since he wakes up very "with it"- (Me get out! Mommy get me out!) One night he asked for juice but I'm not sure I want to start that- he has never asked for a drink in the middle of the night... I think that can be a dangerous habit to start, esp. during training.
I am wondering if it is the potty training. He doesn't really tell me yet when he has to go, I just take him repeatedly. His pull-up is sometimes wet, sometimes dry in the morning. Maybe he's more aware of peeing since he's in the pull-up at night?
To sum it up, did anyone notice any sleep issues with their toddler when potty training? Thanks!

What can I do next?

The only thing that woke my kids up in the middle of the night is if they were in "big kid" underware (actual boxer briefs for my son and panties for my daughter) and if they had an accident; my son is just over four and a half and he doesn't wear pull-ups at night and if he has too much to drink too late, he'll have an accident in his sleep, he'll come out and whine until I get him in something dry then goes right back to sleep.

If he asks for something to drink when he wakes up, give him a small amount (in one of the small dixie cups that you use to rinse your mouth out with after brushing teeth) of water. No juice at night, it's bad for his teeth and will make him have to go to the bathroom faster.

I don't think it is potty training related. Children go through phases when they will wake in the night for no reason at all or from a dream they had. You are right, give juice or any other offerings will only cause you more headache in the long run because the child will expect it every time and will wake up for it. Give water and only enough for 2 swallows, don't take him out of bed either. Keep talking to as little as possible so he can go back to sleep.

Good luck with the potty training!

I don't think it's the potty training. I see you live in the east coast like I do. It's been HOT and miserable here the last week. I think alot of his issue could be related to that. Even if you have a/c, the environment is still going to reflect the changes going on outside. This could also be the reason he's asking for a drink in the middle of the night. I personally would only give him a very tiny amount of water because he could be getting dry mouth from the lovely weather. While you don't want to give him a significant amount to drink to fill his bladder up, you absolutely don't want him ending up dehydrated. Best of luck to you and I hope you get a good night's sleep tonight!

My daughter had sleep issue when she night trained. She would wake up super early. If she didn't, she would have an accident.
