Sleep Advice for a Very Tired Mom

I haven't being able to sleep good in very long time.
I wake up at 7am and I have to drag myself to drink a cup of coffee or I would be like zombie, by 7pm I can keep my eyes open, and if I don't keep moving I would fall sleep right away. I don't like to sleep at that point because my husband travels a lot and I am usually alone with the kids, also is the time when I have to get the toddler ready to sleep.
Then I think that as soon both kids fall sleep I would do too, but I can't, how is that possible?
It also seems to be when I think the most about pretty much everything for most I try to don't think is almost impossible, I have try to count sheep, try to relax, read, no tv, try to imagine a black dot in my mind, etc, etc. Nothing works, it is like at 7pm I just switch to some secret extra energy, but I still feel tired and kind of sickish, just can't sleep.
Finally around 12am I fall sleep and then EVERY night my toddler wakes up around 1 or 2 am, so I get up and put her in bed and she always fall right to sleep without problem but I can't. To make things worst when my husband is working here he gets up every night to pee (no wonder where my toddler gets it!) and I wake up just hearing the bath door open!
Next day the exact same thing, wake up at 7am, almost falling sleep at 7pm, not be able to sleep at night no matter how little sleep I get.
I really can't keep like that, it has being months like this and I start to see the side effects of it. I want to take something but I am afraid that I would not be able to wake up if the baby wakes up, that the next day I would be all drowsy and that I would make me dependent.
Is there something you take that can help me fall sleep early without all of this?
Thanks for your help.

So What Happened?

Thanks all, I will check on the Melatonin first and if that doesn't work I will try with a doctor. Very interesting about the depressant and the sleep doctor, never thought about that, but indeed something needs to be done because I have become a lot more grumpy, my hair is falling more, I am very tired, my memory seems to be affecting too and on top of that I start to grow an annoying feeling against my husband because he falls to sleep so fast and nothing seems to wake him up, then I get mad and I kick him while he is sleeping and fake I am sleeping, lol! Like I said I am getting more grumpy.
can I find Melatonin in any pharmacy or in a special naturist store?

I hadn't felt like I had a full night sleep since my daughter was born. At three years old, she was still waking several times during the night (we bed share). Turns out that I was snoring and waking her up! Since I am single, and hadn't slept around another adult in years, I had no idea how bad it had gotten.

After going for a sleep study, I found out that I have quite a serious case of sleep apnea. Since starting my CPAP therapy I feel like a completely new person (and my daughter started sleeping through the night too!).

My study showed that I was having an event over 30 times an hour! That equates to just around 3 hours of actual restful sleep in 8 hours of "sleeping". The doctor told me that he is seeing more cases of apnea in postpartum women--both because of extra weight but also because of the hormone that loosens our ligaments for delivery also works on the ligaments which support the muscles of our airways.

I would have many nights of insomnia (your brain will often keep you awake because it has been trained that it isn't going to get enough oxygen when you go to sleep), would stay in bed 12-14 hours and STILL need a nap, and got to the point where I literally could not stay awake during the day.

I am certainly not trying to diagnose you, but if you snore, it might be something to discuss with your doctor.

Also try L-Tryptophen....I think that's how you spell it. It's doesn't make you drowsey but it gets rid of that to do list in your head. I love it.
Message me if you want more info or have questions.

I went through a spell like this and ended up taking a mild anti depressant for a short period of time until hormones leveled out. I really didn't want to take the anti depressant...I told the Dr. I'm not depressed I just can't sleep. He was certain that it would help. I REALLY did. I was on a low dose of sertroline which is a generic for zoloft.

I am going to suggest you try some melatonin ... it is good for this type of thing. It will help you drift off to sleep and help you get on a schedule. You should not need it for long as long as you take it at the same time each night.

Do you try to take a nap when your children are napping? My 2 yr old no longer takes naps, but I still put him in his crib once a day to rest. I usually keep him in there for a half hour and he just lies there relaxing while I go to my bed and rest too. Sometimes I fall asleep. Its only for a half hour, but i feel loads refreshed when I get up to get him. I set my alarm clock just in case and keep the baby monitor on high just in case my little one needs me.

Hyland's Calms Forte- for adults.
Natural food stores have it as well as Whole Foods and Amazon.
On Amazon you can read the reviews of it.

It is homeopathic.
Not a drug nor habit forming.
Nor does it induce a hung over feel, nor any less attentiveness.

I use it.
It helps me.

Oh also try Chamomile Tea. Its great. Safe.
I relaxes me. For my Mom it helps her to sleep.

I agree with Janelle! I take melatonin sometimes when im having a hard time relaxing enough to fall asleep. On the other hand, this sounds like something you may want to talk to a doctor about if its been going on this long! Melatonin helps, but you may need something stronger. Being deprived of sleep for a long period of time can have some painful effects! Good Luck!
