My dog gets sprayed ALL the time! I found a great mixture on the internet that has worked the first time- EVERY time.

2 C. Hydrogen peroxide
1/4 C. Baking soda
1 TBSP. Dish soap

It takes extra caution to be sure not to get it in Pooch's eyes, but the oxidation breaks up the oils in the spray and helps it to wash it away.

Good luck! That is THE WORST SMELL IN THE WORLD!

Happened to my dog last summer, and I can say the recipe that Mindy posted did a pretty good job. I researched it on the internet, and I kept coming across that same concoction repeatedly. My dog also rolled on the carpet before we could stop him, and we used this solution on the carpet as well. You won't get the smell out 100% at first, but after treating him I could only smell it if I was up very close to him. Good luck!

I have successfully used baking soda + hydrogen peroxide in a paste. I had to do it a few times, rinsing in between, and it was finally tolerable after I was done.
In fact, I think it was mostly gone.

when our dog was sprayed we were told to wash her in tomatoe juice. It worked really well.

This was recently featured on Science Friday on NPR, so I think it really works, but use Hydrogen Peroxide, perhaps mix it half and half with water. It may bleach your dog's fur slightly but no more skunk smell!

Echoing the tomato juice suggestions. I've heard it's the only thing that works. Google it and I'm sure you'll find lots of info. Good luck! Poor doggie!

Vinegar and water bath. And time! It is the worst but over time (months) the smell will go away. My sister is a dog groomer and deals with this problem most during the summer. Leave him outside (if you can) the sun helps too. As crazy as it may sound use Masingal Vinegar and Water douce. Your dog will have that 'fresh clean feeling'. It may take more than one or two baths but eventually he/she won't be so stinky. Whatever you do don't use tomato juice all that does is make them sticky and can stain their coat. Good luck!
