What is your cure (if you have one) for itching-rash inflamed skin caused by eczema or dermatitis for adults? I would so appreciate any and all of your solutions or advice. :) Thanks so much and happy holidays.

Hi L.
I dont have ecezema but my son gets it really bad in the winter months to the point it cracks and bleeds , so I asked his doctor what he wanted us to use and the doctor told me that the thicker and heavier the lotion for it the better. since then we have been usig a product call Aquaphor its made by the same company that makes Eucerin, its like vaseline
and you have to apply it 4 times daily, I found that its the best for my son and has worked for us better than anything else we have used in the past, and his eczema is getting soo much better.
If that doesnt work for you try or get gold bond medicated lotion in the green bottle it will stop the itch and anything else that is going on for you while you have eczema but those are the best products I have found to get rid of eczemma
Good Luck
Happy Holidays

I use Arbonne's re9 serum and lotion, it works great! My doctor told me to stay away from anything with mineral oil or petroleum base, it makes the exzema worse.

Like the other responder (Sheree) eucerine in the jar is the best I have found. I actually buy the cvs brand ..it works the same and a lot less $$. I have moderate psoriasis and get tired of putting cortisone based products on my skin..as it makes your skin thin and discolor. I have only been using the ointment after showering (must be really dried off or it wont stay on your skin). My skin has improved dramatically! Hope this helps you.

Eucerine cream (in the tub, not the pump) works really well. Also putting cortisone on it. Make sure you keep the area as dry as possible and never put bandages over it.
Sometimes it can be caused by an allergic reaction to either food or something you touch. I found out in high school that the eczema on my hands was caused by an allergic reaction to metal because I had recently switched from clarinet to trumpet. So everywhere I touched my trumpet was always cracked, bleeding, oozing.....gross, not to mention painful and extremely itchy.
My daughter gets eczema if she eats wheat or dairy, so we've cut those things out of her diet.
Good luck.

Hi L., I have skin eczema when the weather changes to winter. The only over the counter medicine that is the best is Cortizone 10. Just put a little on it and rub it in and mine goes right away. The docs have this prescription medicine "Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream" that they precribed to me for the eczema and it works to a tee. Awesome. Maybe you could talk to yours about it.
I also have it on my psoriasis on my scalp year round, very embarrassing, but Nioxin Shampoo and Conditioner takes it right away and leaves your hair so full. Not sure if you have it on your head too, but just in case. If you need any info on the products I suggested, just give me a write ok?
Good luck. I know this stuff will work. It also runs in the family. My dad has it.

I used to have eczema as well. Doctors were of no help and I eventually self diagnosed. Turned out it was my body's response to food additives. I made a drastic change to my diet (nothing out of a box, no preservatives, no artificial colors or flavors, no lunch or cured meats, no high fructose corn syrup, enriched flour, etc). I've been symptom free for 6 years now. A liver cleanse tea will help you greatly as well. Look for a blend that specifically has burdock, yellow dock, and dandelion root in the ingredients.
Happy holidays and be well :)

I give my little guy an oatmeal bath. Get referred to a dermatologist. They have special soap and creams that available without a prescription but you have to ask the pharmacist for them. I'm not sure on the names I'll have to ask my sister. I like the baby eczema cream that is sold in most stores it has winnie the pooh on it. Its real thick so a little goes a long way but I know it is one of the only thing that helps my son's skin. If your skin is very itchy take some benedryl and use hydrocortisone cream both of these were prescribed for my son when he flares up bad. Hope this was some help.

One product to try is called hydrolated petrolatum. It's VERY thick so you don't need much. You can buy it in any drugstore and it comes in a tub. It works great if you put it on after bathing with your skin still slightly wet - just use a little and rub it in well.

I've been prone to eczema my whole life. What I do now is drink LOTS of water, use a humidifier in the winter, and use cream instead of lotion - not in a pump, but from a jug. Nice thick stuff that doesn't flow. Eucerine, Cetaphil, and some other brands are good. I use it immediately after I get out of the shower everywhere. Sometimes I'll use a hydrocortizone cream if it gets itchy, but usually it doesn't help very much. If I've scratched it so much I have an open sore, I'll use an antibiotic cream. That is enough to keep it under control for the most part.
It could be a result of a food allergy/intolerance so if these things don't work, you might want to talk to your doctor. When I was a baby I had a milk allergy that supposedly caused the eczema. Good luck!

My son had eczema early in life. What we found that works best is when he has a break out, I just use a little of the Cortizone 10. Maybe only one morning and night and it is gone. But his break outs now arent that bad. The other thing too that I think helped him to get only minor breakouts, is I switched the laundry detergent to ALL Free and Clear. I stopped using dryer sheets too cause they are loaded with perfumes. I recently started using the Bounce dryer sheets that come in the white box that are free of perfumes and dyes and he's done fine w/ them. So you might want to check out what products you are using on your laundry too.
Best of Luck

I do not know that there is a cure honey.
One of my adult sons finds that using exclusively Dove bath gel/wash is one way to keep it under control.
Another, when he has an outbreak mostly in summer, is to use pinetar soap which is an oldtime downeast remedy. You can get it at LLBeans or Vermont country store or most any health food or natural food store.
He uses bee's wax hand cream in the winter. His finger skin will peel right off and bleed without it.
For the itching rashes I get on my legs and feet I use Sarna Lotion..OTC in most any drug store, I go to Rite Aid.
Best wishes

L.,

I know what you're going through. A lot of times eczema is diet related - wheat and dairy being big culprits. You could cut back on those and see if it helps. Cod Liver Oil is great for eczema (1 TBSP day) among other things. The Norwegian Cod Liver Oil (Carlson) tastes good - like lemon. You can get it at Whole Foods and other natural markets. I get mine at www.vitacost.com

I've also gotten Quercetin from Natural Market Place in Salem, NH and it's helped with my eczema.

Those are just a few suggestions. I hope it helps.

This is going to sound crazy but it works. I use apple cider vinegar. I have it on my legs, arms and elbows. I use a cottn ball and rub on the area, within a 2 days it is gone. There is no cure but this is the best remedy I have used.
Good Luck.

I had a terrible rash after my daughter was born, and it took nearly 3 years to get rid of it! I saw several dermatologists and an allergist. I spent a fortune and insane amounts of time dealing with the rash. I tried prescription creams, UV treatment, and a visit to a bigwig at Lahey. What has kept it at an almost-gone state for about six months now is Sarna, an over the counter cream found at CVS, and a prescription cortisone cream- I alternate using them. I'm sure that Cortaid would also do the trick. Sarna is magical! It is numbing so you don't scratch and make it worse. It's a bit harsh (feels cold and numbing at first, then a bit tingly) but the feeling subsides and it is very helpful. I use it at night when I am most itchy. Give it a try!

My cure was getting off yeast, wheat & dairy! Yeast was the main culprit to my eczema. I stopped eating all foods with yeast including drinking beer/alcohol (hard liquor). My eczema was gone with in days! Then I got married went on my honeymoon & cheated ate anything I wanted drank a lot of alcoholic island drinks & broke out worse than ever. Came home from the honeymoon got off all yeast again & once again within days rash got better within 2 weeks it was gone & comes back once in a while when I cheat once again & induldge but that is rare!! Oh I also heard from some people that eggs can cause eczema too. Not true for me though, but then again I don't eat eggs to often.

My son (16 mos) has really bad eczema (especially in the winter time). His pedi gave us a prescription for a cortizone cream, which we put on his rough spots 2 times a day - seemed to work like magic. During the day, we use hydrolatum, recommended by the nurses at Boston Children's Hospital. You can find this at a pharmacy - they have it behind the counter or can order it for you. (we used a lot of other brands that didn't seem to work for him as well, like aquaphor & cetaphil. Good Luck.

I didn't read any of your responses, so I don't know if someone already said this. I personally do not have eczema, but my son does. He gets it all over his legs and it was getting to the point of cracking or bleeding it was so bad. I asked the doctor about it (I use a naturopathic doctor for most things)and she suggested that I start taking Nordic something's brand of fish oil 3 times a day (he was exclusively nursing at the time). My sons eczema was GONE in about 1 week of doing that. I recently ran out and didn't replace it and now it's coming back... I bet if you took some fish oil 3x a day, it may help?

Best wishes!

i have eczema only on my hands, but sometimes it gets so bad, i can't bend my fingers. I have a prescription for fluocinonide, (lidex) and it burns like the devil if the skin is really raw, but clears up the lesions within a day. It is the fastest, most effective one I have tried. I'm sure you could ask your dr. for a recommendation. Good Luck! (also, i have to avoid latex)
