Can anyone tell me what it is that the stars have on their skin that make it have such a nice shine to it? I am in my 50's now and I can't find anything for my dry skin. I have tried almost all of the over the counter lotions but I can never get any glow to my skin at all. I'm interested in like body lotions or creams, not for the face.

What can I do next?

I had the very same problem and now have a wonderful skin care system that I use for anti aging. I would love to share a sample pack with you if you would like to contact me.

Hi T.
I am also in my 50's with dry skin. I have thyroid disease which contributes to it. My dr. said drinking plenty of fluids daily will help ease the dryness. Lotion usually takes care of the rest. Allergies can also play a big part in the dryness.

Arbonne really does have terrific products. They have an anti-aging line that is great! I don't sell it but I do use it. I would highly recommend it.

Hi T.,

I have recommended Arbonne to my Step-Mom and she cannot stop raving about it. She has even written me an Thank-you note for "saving her skin"~! I wouldn't normally respond but in this case knowing how my she loves it you may want to give it a try. I could send you a free sample of the anti-aging line that is self adjusting for any skin type. It uses nanosphere technology to target areas in need and includes a facial serum that increases cell turnover to give you back your "glow". Send me a message and I can get it out in the mail today!

Hi T.,

First, stop comparing yourself to the "stars"! I'm sure all the lights from the cameras add to the shimmery glow anyhow.

Shea butter, vitamin C, and olive oil are some ingredients I've recently read about. Also, avoid any preservative w/ the ending "-paraben."

Sunscreen is a must!

A diet rich in antioxidants (berries, dark chocolate yay!), good fats (almonds, walnuts, salmon) and plenty of water are great for the skin as well.

First make sure you're well hydrated because you have to start from the inside out. Then try cocoa butter or grapeseed oil both are light and very nice on your skin. If you're looking for something heavier that will stick with you I use Nivea creme - not the lotion the creme. ;) And if you really want to work on your dry skin go for a full body massage at a Licensed Massage Therapist - that will increase your circulation and more times than not will improve your skin condition when in combination with drinking a lot of water. ;) Good luck!

Another trick I use - and be careful with this one- because it's slick. I will put Neutrogena Rainbath oil directly into my bath and soak in it - using a "scrubby" to exfoliate while I'm in. Result: Towel drying soaks up excess oil on the skin leaving your skin beautifully glowing and baby soft - add a nice glass of wine, candlelight and soft music and BAM! you have a complete rejuvination w/o leaving the house! :) - Hope you find your fix!

I'm not a grandma yet, but I'm 48. Last time I went to my doc, she said my skin looked bad, and that it was a sign of omega-3 deficiency. She recommended I start taking a teaspoon of cod liver oil every day, and it has made a HUGE difference. My skin is so much softer!
I know, cod liver oil, ick! I asked her about fish oil tablets, but she said it just takes too many to get the same dose. She recommended a couple different ones that do not have heavy metal impurities like some of the less expensive ones you might get in the grocery. I ended up with this one (http://www.nordicnaturals.com/en/Products/Product_Details...) which I can get at a local pharmacy. Even though it says it doesn't taste like fish, it does. I take it with a milk chaser (don't even swallow til you get the milk in your mouth!) and it's not bad at all.

I am almost 43, and suffer from dry skin, too. I have discovered that if I use Dove to clean my face in the shower every day, my dry skin stays away. Just a regular old bar of Dove! I refuse to spend money on fancy lotions and creams! My grandma has always used Dove, too, and she looks great!
In the winter, after I shower I use store brand "Oil of Olay" beauty lotion before my makeup. In addition to the Dove.
I have beautiful skin, and my age is usually guessed at 30-35!

A lot of them use a bronzing powder on their skin after applying lotions and such. It gives your skin a little bit of sun kiss and it has some sparkle to it.

I've started using Arbonne products for my face. My friend introduced me to the company after I've seen the amazing effects the baby care line has had on her little girl with eczema (when nothing else worked). I've only been using for a couple weeks and have seen really nice results. My skin is softer, pores tighter and has an overall glow to it (no dry patches either). The products are completely natural, which I really like well too. Their website is: https://www.arbonneinternational.com.au/shop_online/shopO...
(I use the Nurtiminc Re9, anti-aging skin care line)

I have been using the Dove lotions, it is in a maroonish bottle. It is a thick creamy lotion that has worked really well with my dry skin.

The other thing I try to do about every two weeks is use the Skin-So-Soft Oil from Avon in the shower. I wash and apply the oil to my skin from my neck down. That really hydrates my skin.

Good luck.

Use a good skin care product that works with your skin. Avon is pretty good. I'm in my 40s and after years of looking for a product, I finally found a product at Kohl's (of all places) called: "The good skin". It is really great to use under make-up. I use the toner and the facial lotion. The make-up I use is Physician's Formula products. They go on nice and evenly. For the shine that you are looking for, get a bronzer and slightly sweep it over your cheeks, nose, and forehead - anywhwere where the sun would naturally "touch-up" your skin. Do this after you are done with putting make-up on. If your skin has lots of red tones in it, stick with a bronzer that has golden/peachy colors (if you use pink shades, it will enhance your red tones/spots). Also, check out "www.prevention.com". They have some good tips on colors to put on and h/t put on make-up to kinda hide those wrinkles.

I think the first step is to exfoliate at least once a week. Get a loofa and some exfoliating soap and do it in the shower. Then put a good lotion on immediately. I am using one now that I got from the tanning salon, and even though I haven't tanned in quite sometime I use the lotion everyday because it locks in the moisture. For times when I am going out I will put a shimmer lotion by Nivea on, over top of the other lotion that I already have on. Also, I try not to use bar soap in the shower because I feel that dries my skin out more than using a body wash or liquid form of soap (also this helps to eliminate soap scum).

Hi T.! My mom is 57 and she has always SWORN by Oil of Olay. She insists that's what makes her skin look wonderful and she has very dry, sensitive skin. For myself, when I want to look "glowy", I put a little bit of baby oil on right after I get out of the shower, before I even dry off and it gives my skin a nice sort of glow to it. Hope that helps a little!!!

Have you tried Olay? It has been rated #1 against all others out there, that's including the $300 creams. I'm in my 30's and just started using the regenerist. Go here http://www.olay.com/ then click on olay for you and answer a few q's and it will tell you exactly what you need. And no offense to the above post, but that stuff in not cheap and Olay has been rated #1 and helps your pocket more.

One of the things that a lot of people with dry skin forget is to exfoliate. You need to slough off that dead skin to let the new skin underneath shine though. Then, when you get out of the shower, don't dry completely off...just pat yourself dry. Water is the best hydration....apply a really good emollient lotion to hold the water into your skin. I use Mary Kay's extra emollient Night Cream. If you do this before bed and maybe put on old sweats or something, it will keep that moisture in and you'll end up with a nice glow. You will have to do this several times a week at first, but I think you'll notice a nice shine and glow after a while.

I do not know what the stars use. But you can try nivea body lotion. That does wonders. I use it & my skin always has a glow to it. I know I am almost 20 yrs younger, but I think it will do the same for your skin. Also try to put on the lotion without towel drying after a shower or bath. Just use the washcloth to dry your skin still leaving it a little damp then apply lotion. It stays on longer & keeps your skin glowing all day long. Hope this works for you.

Are you aware that lack of hydration can be a major factor in dry skin? You need to be drinking a MINIMUM of half your body weight in ounces of water DAILY....more if you exercise.

BOTH are huge contributors to beautiful skin. I get compliments on my skin all the time. I tell people that my diet and hydration habits are the key.

BTW.....I'm 51 and EVERYONE says I look 35

I don't know all of them, but for the red carpet, they'll use anything to look good, even if it is uncomforatble, or not something they'd normally use! Plus TONS of makeup. I have started using Arbonne skincare and cosmetics. I loved them so much i decided to join the company! The 2 big issues I had were lining around my eyes, and dull dry looking skin. I wanted that youthful glow back. I got it within a couple of days! Let me know if you'd like more info, or a free sample! you can also check Arbonne out for yourself! www.arbonne.com
good luck, regardless!

They use limitless amounts of money and lots of people to help them look that good! :D lol.... I honestly don't know if there is anything out there than can make any of us normal folks look like a celebrity. I may be mistaken, but I don't think it's the lotions that give the glow you're talking about. I think it's more the expertly applied bronzers and such. You may want to try the makeup counters at a dept store like Macy's. They give free makeovers and may be able to point you in the right direction.

Most of the pictures you see of stars have been touched up! The most important thing is from the inside out--being low in essential fatty acids will cause dry skin. Flax seed, fatty fish, evening primrose oil would be a good place to start! Also--have your thyroid checked, many women esp. around menopause have low levels which can cause dry skin.
