Hello Mama's
What has been your experience with the new walking shoes called shape- up?
I have a pair of the shape-ups and really like them, they are super comfortable. Just don't climb any ladders while wearing them and all is well! ;-)
My friend has these and according to her, she can feel the burn. This is, of course, after a 4 mile walk. Anyone would feel the burn. I just read an article about a group of doctors who want to get these shoes banned because they are ruining the hip and spinal alignments of some wearers (and of course I can't find the article now). Also, if you aren't careful, you can roll your ankles because you are off balance. Personally, I'll just stick to my regular tennies!
My mother just asked her doctor about them - he warned against them because he feels they will cause back problems down the road because they cause you to walk in an unnatural way... Like another poster said below, you're probably better getting in a quick workout than wearing those shoes...
I also read a news article a couple of weeks ago and cannot remember where. What I read said something about those shoes that have the odd rounded heel possibly causing problems. The shape up shoes have either a rounded heel or a different type of sole. The ones with the sole are supposed to be okay as they do not change the way your hips are aligned. I might have read it on the Chicago Tribune's website un the Health column (Julie's Helathclub? or something like that).
Thought about it, but skeptical. What does everyone else say?
I love them!! I have the sketchers ones and they are the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. Just don't try biking, stair climbing, and climbing ladders. :)
I, too, was going to make the same comment as Samantha. I only know 1 person with them, and she loves them, but it could be a placebo effect.
Most information shows that they simply align your pelvis differently than most of us walk and may not necessarily help tone as much as advertised. Truth in advertising? That's a novel concept.
of course, I can't find the information about them from the news last week either.
I opt for a good workout over these shoes. I've also seen the reports saying that doctors are not fans. I love regular sketchers shoes and find that they are perfect for a walk with the kids!
I have the Champion's version of this shoe sold at Payless for less than half of what the sketchers are and first day I wore them I felt like I'd been working out all day and all I did was go shopping.
Champion's also has the reebok shoe,
one note about the Sketcher's version of this shoe they do not come in wide I would have had to get two sizes too big to get the sketcher's brand.
Payless ShoesSource has the same things but way cheaper and they are just as comfortable. The shoe changes the way you walk so that your muscle work harder. It then may affect your hips and knees and cause problems down the road. They are great for comfort but does it really "shape" your butt and thighs. I don't know, I would think not. You need to exercise and eat right, there is no magic to losing weight.
