Is there anybody out there that has a child with Situs Inversus Totalis? I would like to learn more about it. I have a 2 year old daughter that was diagnosed with it at 3 months old.

What can I do next?

Interesting. O H., I am sorry you have been affected by this. I was given links right with your entry here. And it says that if there are no other indicative problems or no history of congestive problems, individuals with S.I.T. can basically live normal lives, just that everything's a mirror situation. They should inform doctors ahead of an exam of the situation. It could have its setbacks. But knowing about it now gives you and your daughter a head start on letting doctors....and many others...aware of it so there's a chance to plan accordingly.
But look it up on the web.

Hi H.!
All I really know is that I have a friend whose husband has this condition, is in his mid-fifties and has never had any problems.
Hopes this helps.

I have an eleven year old daughter with it. She was diagnosed with it at five years old. In Oregon her pulmonologist had her on a regime of antibiotics but now our pulmonologist here in Louisiana (who specializes in cystic fibrosis) and she took her off all the meds andmy daughter uses a vest compression system and does two breathing treatments a day and rarely gets sick. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them

Situs Inversus Totalis is a heart condition (congenital heart). I don't know much about it but googled it. It took me to www.medhelp.org. I hope this will help.

Pretty much all internal organ are reversed i.e. the heart lies more on the R instead of L and the appendix is on the L instead of the R. (Situs Inversus can also just be single organ or organ systems reversed. The Totalis just means all internal organs.) They lead lives just like the rest of us. However, I would stongly advise before any medical work-up tell whomever is taking care of her multiple times about the Situs Inversus Totalis. One of my case studies in internship was on a pt with this condition and I found multiple chest x-rays lable incorrectly as the x-ray technitian was trying to "correct" the image.

I don't have any relatives with this disease, but as I understand it...it is when the organs are on the opposite side of the body than where they normally are. I saw a child on Oprah with this condition and she is fine. She just had to be careful with infections. I wish you the best. Maybe there is some kind of support group you can join. Good luck and God bless!

Hi H.,

I have a first cousin that has this condition, though I didn't know it by the medical term. From what I understand he has suffered some complications from this during his life. But, is now over forty years old, married and with children of his own.

I don't know if this helps you but I wanted to let you know that people diagnosed with this still go on to live healthy and productive lives.

Good luck and hang in there! God bless!
