We found our regular sitter through sittercity. I'm a single mom with no family to speak of in the area. There are definitely people who apply who I would NEVER leave my child with, but it gave me some good options and after interviews I found our main sitter who's been with us for two years as well as a couple of "back ups" I use when the regular sitter isn't available.

We found a great nanny using Sittercity! I had to find one on VERY short notice, so I joined for a month. I found 20 people who I actually wanted to interview (I was contacted by many more), interviewed them and had a hard time narrowing it down. We were very happy with our choice. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again!

It's hit and miss. I signed up w/ Sittercity to find a mother's helper, two afternoons per week. I got two great ones, who both wound up taking other jobs, then my third choice started working for me and she turned out to be the BIGGEST idiot ever. One day she just didn't show up and I never heard from her again. I'm going to stick to reliable sources from church.

I run a sitter service and have found many families on there but from what i have heard they have said it is a hit and miss as well.

And i have found some "strange" people on the family side too. You can look for girls that have had background checks. I think you get a discount to when signing up if you use a referral. I can't remember if the half off month is still active. You can try. My username is Arismama03
