Usually when they start hiding to go to the bathroom they are ready to be potty trained. Since he wants the diaper off when he does it, it may be rather easy to train him now.
I would definately give it a good try!
Hello :) My sister in law is having a problem with my 2 1/2 year old nephew. Every time he poops, he will go into a corner, or somewhere to hide and take off his diaper. He always gets poop all over the carpet, and himself and she has been late for work several times because he likes to do this right as they are about to leave. Does anyone have any suggestions to get him to stop doing this? Thanks! M.

1. Try putting the diaper on backwards.
2. I had the same problem and ended up dressing them in backwards feet-pajamas. I cut the feet off and cut a little notch where the back of the neck usually goes. I would zip that sucker up the back and my little Houdini's never did figure out how to get that one off. (We'll see about number 4 though, at 16 months he's already figured out the child proof cabinet latches and safety gates!)
This stage is called "Awareness" and is an __opportunity__ to start thinking about potty-training.
It sounds like he is ready to be potty trained.
Has he started potty training yet? If he's taking off his diaper when he poops, that's a sure sign that he doesn't want poop in his pants anymore. Hiding in a corner to poop is VERY common. Almost every toddler I know (including my own!) has done this at one point or another. We encouraged our daughter to pee and poop with M&Ms (just one M&M for pee, two for poop). Peeing in the potty was very suceessful, but pooping on the potty took about 6 months.
I guess the only word of advice to pass along is what was told to me--try to control the anger, frustration, and read lots of books about the potty. What he's doing is totally normal and it will pass.
I feel that if he is taking off his diaper, he is ready to be potty trained. He know's he does not like the feel of a poopy diaper. Takes a lot of patience and time.
Can always try the potty dance. If he goes potty on the potty, you just sing, "child's name, just went to the potty, and we're going to have a party, ooh, laa laa laa laa !
And explain that once he goes on the potty 5 days straight and has pretty much go the hang of it, then you reward with a small family party or chuck E Cheese.
Good luck!

I agree with what everyone else said. But if potty training doesn't work or isn't feasible right this minute, snap crotch t-shirts should help in the meantime.
My boys would go into the corner also. I bought a couple of inexpensive potty chairs and put one in their "favorite" corner and one in all the bathrooms. They were potty trained within a week and never had an accident! He is sooooo ready for potty training Good luck!
Yep, potty training sounds like it's in order. But for the short term you can wrap duct tape around the top of the diaper, being careful not to tape his skin. Little fingers shouldn't be able to pry it off.
Maybe he is ready to start potty training. Or maybe just a pair of overalls to make it more difficult to remove the clothes.
