Sirius Satellite Radio

I got a free trial offer in my car, and I've decided I want satellite radio in my home, and my husband wants a portable one. I could barely understand the customer service guy, so I gave up and decided to ask you guys. It sounds like there are different levels (cost) of radios? If that is true, is the $180 radio way better than the $20 radio? Why? And does anyone know anything about the portable radios?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My husband bought me one because I LOVE the one in our car! But he actually took it to his office and really enjoys it. The short version is that we really enjoy all kinds of music. So before the days of satellite and digital my DH put all of our music on a separate computer and wired speakers all over the house. So I can literally 'dial up' whatever I'm in the mood for and listen to it where ever I am in the house. I didn't really use the portable at home.
I'm not sure what he spent, but I know it wasn't the cheapy. He usually goes middle of the road with that stuff.

Well, I used to have XM (XL, incredibly I forget, it was a credit card autopay, so it's not like I wrote checks for the $14 a month, right?) in the house.

It was a boom box type thing. The antenna has to be in a south facing window, it was small, like a hockey puck. Keep in mind this was like 2005, a zillion years ago in techno progress.

I LOVED it. I had it on all the time. Local radio here is a vast wasteland, since it hasall beem bought up by Clearchannel and other large corporate companies. And being that the only form of higher education I was able to complete was broadcasting tech school, I'm a bit of a radio snob. I can't take the stoned college DJs, couldn't take them even when I was a stoned college student.

Where else can you hear Echo and the Bunnymen, Ramones, Third Eye Blind, DMB, Ten Years After, Steely Dan...well you get the idea, all in the same place. Plus there really were NO COMMERCIALS then, and the name of the band, the name of the record, the date, and the label ran across the screen for every song.

About 9 million different stations....Don't know what it's like now...

But last summer when I smoked my motor and transmission in my car, I had a rental with Sirius, and it was AWESOME (almost made up for the embarrassment of driving a Ford Focus for 6 weeks...almost).

:)

Love Sirius!!! I had a nicer portable that was stolen from my car, so I went back to the cheapo portable we got for free 5 years ago when we got Sirius as a promo. It works very well!

Absolutely the cost of the radio helps determine how good the radio is. From reception to features to what the radio can actually do. The one my husband has now has a rewind feature (much like DVR), and it can be taken off the home dock and put into the car. He loves it a lot, but they don't make his model anymore. I'm sure they make a similar radio. I know he got his at Target, so you don't necessarily have to buy from Sirius per se, but you do need to call and get whatever radio you buy activated through your account.
