We are heading to Silver Lake for a vacation in a couple of weeks. We rented a house near the lake. Looking for ideas for things to do, things to see. Also, any fishing hotspots for my husband? My kids are 5 and 2! Obviously, we are hitting up the sand dunes and will hang out at the beach but looking for a few other ideas. I don't mind driving a little ways to do things. Also, I was told that there wasn't any grocery stores nearby. Where did you get your groceries? Or should I just shop before I go?

What can I do next?

There is an awesome dairy nearby. I am not sure what it's called, but they have a store that sells their milk, ice cream and other treats. They have the best chocolate milk I've ever tasted. We also enjoyed the bike trail. There really isn't a whole lot to do there so take a lot of reading material for yourself and things to occupy the kids. Have fun!

Check out Michigan Adventure - it's a small amusement park and water park in the area that should be fun to do for one of the days you are there.

There's the Mac dunes rides. There's a lighthouse you can walk up. There's a minigolf, go- cart type place. I know there is a small grocery store around there somewhere. Stop and buy pies at the orchards on your way in!

Go to http://www.michigan.org and check it out. A never ending list of things to do and there are fishing hot spots all over the place. When you cross the border into Michigan stop at the welcome center and pick up every brochure you can think of. Plus the kids will enjoy getting their own brochures for the trip. Just remember to recycle them when you're done with them. We live in KY and go to the Upper Peninsula many times a year, we love it in Michigan. Don't miss the lighthouses and you have to go to Ludington while you're in the area. Have fun.
