Okay...I have a silly question. I have never gotten yeast infections before I was pregnant with my son (about 7 months)and have never had them since. Well I have one now. I don't think I am pregnant but it can't be a sign can it? I did get car sick the other day which never happens but I honestly don't think I can be pregnant. Does anyone have any home remedies for a yeast infection?
Don't feel silly. Most everyone gets a yeast infection once in awhile. The most common reason is from being on antibiotics. I am not an expert but I've never heard of that being a sign of being pregant. Getting nausious...maybe. I've had good luck with over the counter medications for yeast infections and they're not very expensive. I recommend the 3 day versions vs. the 5 or 7 day versions, it's worth the little extra $$. Good luck!

A yeast infection can be triggered by many things, and is not typically considered a sign of pregnancy, but I think the hormonal changes of pregnancy can trigger it in some women.
Diet, aging/hormonal changes, taking antibiotics, and stress can all be factors, as well. (Actually, motion sickness can be triggered by some of these things, as well.) Has anything changed in these areas? Are you under a lot of stress? Are you eating and sleeping well?
Also, are you sure it's a yeast infection and not bacterial? Treatments differ, although most home treatments for yeast infection, such as eating yogurt/acidophilus and avoiding sugar, won't do any harm to try either way, even if you are pregnant. Try to avoid a lot of sugars and "simple starches," such as white bread, also, as these "feed" the yeast and make it more difficult to treat. Our local grocery store sells acidophilus milk, and I usually drink that when I get tired of yogurt. I haven't found a brand of acidophilus capsules that seem to work well for me, but maybe you would have more luck. I know they work very well for some people.
I believe there is an over-the-counter home test you can take to check for YI, but it might not be worth the expense, especially if you're sure that's what you have.
If you notice other symptoms, or if it doesn't seem to be clearing up (or gets worse), I would see the doctor about it--and might ask about a pregnancy test at the same time if that's still a concern by then.
HTH!

P.S. I agree with the lady who said NOT to douche--my doctor emphasized this with my last YI, as he said it could cause it to get worse, and wasn't likely to help.

A friend of mine has terrible yeast infections, the only thing that works for her is to actually get some PLAIN yogurt from the grocery store that has live yogurt cultures and apply it. I know that sounds gross but it works. On another note, when I found out I was pregnant with my first child, I had began humming in my sleep. A few years later, I started humming in my sleep again. Guess what? You guessed it! My boys are almost 2 years apart. Good luck!!

well the thing with yeast infections is once you have had them you are more prone to them. but i'd just take a home test to check. if the skin isn't broken get monistat 7 or monisat3...vag suppositories ( i know, they suck) and then medicated cream for the outside. good luck with that! and don't be embarassed...we all have a vagina, here. chances are someone else besides me and you have had one. :)

Yeast infections are more common when you are pregnant because it changes the environment of your vagina (due to hormonal changes). Check for pregnancy if you are having spells of nausea. The best remedy is eating lots of yogurt, or take acidophilus (pills from the health food store)daily for a week or two.

Not sure about the pregnancy part but I do have a home remedy. Take equal parts of baking soda, yogurt (plain) and butter milk mix them together and douch with it. It does work really quickly. The other option is to call your doc. There is a pill you can take called Diflucan. You only take it once and it is less than $4 for the presctiption. It is quicker and easier than the first option but they both work.

T., it's not embarrassing to get one of these, but it is pretty uncomfortable. The one and only time I got one I had been on a long round of antibiotics for strep. Apparently the antibiotics killed off all bacterias and left me with some inbalance(according to the doctor) Home remedies will work, but usually takes time. I'm too impatient with the discomfort to wait, so I got a prescription for medicine from the doctor, it was inserted vaginally and cleared it up pronto! ALSO, you might find out if you can pass this back and forth with the hubby, I can't remember for sure. But if it's something you can pass between the two of you, he'll need treatment too so you don't get it back.
Be sure to wear "breathable" cotton undies and wash them in hot water, that will help keep everything drier there.
I'm sure some of the other ladies here can give you more on the homeopathic remedies. :)
ps. If you are wondering about being pregnant, get the test, it's easier than worrying about it.

If you are sure it is a yeast infection, there are over the counter products that will help. I have no idea of they are linked to you maybe being pregnant.

There are over the counter medicines to help with a yeast infection. You might also want to contact your OBGYN. Eating yogurt can help get the healthy bacteria back into your system to help fight the yeast. My OBGYN actually recommended that I eat yogurt every day while pregnant to avoid yeast infections since they're a common problem with pregnant women. It helped! I didn't have a single infection. You can also buy capsules with active bacteria at the drug store if you don't like yogurt.
DO NOT douche! Douching is not recommended anymore, all it does is offset the natural pH of your vagina and can cause more infection.
If you think you might be pregnant, the only way to find out is to either wait another few months or take a pregnancy test. :) Go ahead and test!
Hope you feel better soon. Good luck!

You shouldn't be embarrassed about having a yeast infection. It is extreamly common (unfortunately). Here is a perfect home remedy. It takes 6 nights. On the first night peel a clove of garlic and insert it vaginally. Take it out in the morning. The next night peel and bruise (squeeze) a clove of garlic and insert it. Remove in the morning. For the next 4 nights peel, bruise, and cut lateral cuts into the garlic clove. Insert it and remove in the morning. This step may burn at first, but it'll go away. If it burns too much take it out and make less cuts in a new clove. Use large cloves. They are easier to remove. This remedy has worked for me. If your infection is really bad then put a new clove in during the day. Also eat plain yogurt daily. Sweetened yogurt has a ton of sugar and yeast feeds on sugar. You can take acidophilus also and avoid alchohol and any sugary drinks and foods. Our natural foods store in lawrence sells a lot of products/pills for yeast infections. I like the Yeast Away. Good luck. The garlic will work and a bath with a little tea tree oil in it the next day will take the smell away. Hormones are always the cause of my yeast infections. I usually have one right before my period. So, you could be pregnant. I'd take a test to be certain.

Eat lots and lots of yogurt.
Yogurt has live cultures that your body as a woman needs when you are low on your "good" bacteria.
Also go pick up a pack of Monostat suppositories I think they have a one day treatment now.
Pick up a pregnancy test and take it right away.
If you took any antiobiotics lately that can cause you to get a yeast infection due to it kills all bacteria, Even the good.
Also wear loose breathable underwear.

Ok....First of all go to walmart and get a 3pack Equate pregnancy test ($8).Here is some advice that is a bit gross sounding and TMI but here you are......Just plain acidopholis won't cut it. You need a good Probiotic and lots of water. Also, this is what I do....Go buy some cheesecloth and a large clove of garlic. Peel a smaller clove, score some lines down the edge and wrap in the cheesecloth and insert as you would a tampon (leaving a little extra to make it easier to pull out). It takes about 2-3 days and is all natural and perfectly safe during pregnancy. Another thing you could try that is also perfectly safe is get some Tea Tree Oil and put about 8-10 drops on a tampon and use that. But use caution...If it is a really bad infection, it will burn a little.....But I swear by the garlic!!! HTH

Yes to the yogurt! It really does help. A couple of other things are to wear cotton undies, wash frequently and also to dry that area really, really well before getting dressed. Mine would normally clear up in a few days. Sorry so graffic, but we're all girls, here, right? :)

Acidophilus is sold in capsules over the counter or eating lots of yogurt. You can get the antifungal creams over the counter too, but they are expensive.

Go to the drugstore and get a pregnancy test and a 1- or 3-day pack for the yeast infection. They are vaginal suppositories and should not affect the baby if you are pregnant. Better to know, though. And better to whip a yeast infection fast before you get more and more uncomfortable.

If you don't want to go to the doc for a prescription for it, try acidophilus. It comes in pill form, and is in the vitamin section at the store. It works every time for me. I don't take it on a regular basis, but if I feel like I'm starting to get a yeast infection or I'm taking antibiotics and am at increased risk for getting one, I take one a day. As for being pregnant, take a test.

Definately try the yogurt, but make sure to get the yogurt with live ative cultures. Also I know apple cider vinegar does a lot to help out w/ so much so maybe do some research on vinegar and yeast infections. If you are pregnant, congrats!!
