Silly? Can I Sleep on My Stomache Yet?

Hey moms - I am a stomache sleeper. My whole last pregnancy was so hard because I wanted to sleep on my belly towards the end and that just was not happening! So, here I am 2 1/2 weeks postpartum and ready to sleep comforatbly again. I layed down on the bed and was ready to sleep when my hubby came in and read me the riot act (tenderly, of course!). Told me that since I had a c-section I shouldn't be sleeping on my stomache yet.
How about it moms...can I sleep on my belly yet or do I need to wait a couple more weeks?

What can I do next?

If it hurts, don't do it.

AKA the rule for healing from any kind of surgery, sans physical therapy, and even then... there's a line between when it hurts too much.

The inverse is also true... if it doesn't hurt (and not because you're numbed out on pain meds)... have at.

I agree, if it doesn't hurt, then you are fine. For me at 2 1/2 weeks, it still hurt me...but if it doesn't you, then I think it's fine. Just listen to your body, it will tell you if you are doing too much. The only thing I think is, obviously, don't lay on your tummy too long. (like all day. lol) Your incision needs air occasionally.

I believe that as long as it does not bother you, you should be able to sleep on on belly.

I had a C-section, well, over a decade ago....but....I think the rule of thumb is if you are comfortable and laying on your tummy does not hurt you then it is okay.

It is so sweet that he is worried about....maybe skip the tummy this weekend and call your Dr. office Monday morning and get the "official" okay to put him at ease.

Congratulations on your new baby!!!!!!

I think it's too soon. A c section is major surgery. You could still get fluid pooling around the incision and that's something you want to avoid as it will make healing difficult.

Check with your doctor but I wouldn't try it until at least 4 weeks. Typical healing from any sort of major surgery is at least 6 weeks.

I'm sorry you're having such a time. It's hard enough to be a new mother, not getting enough sleep, AND this on top of it.

I had two sections. Like you I like to sleep on my belly and I was back to sleeping on it pretty quickly after both of mine. I did keep a small pillow under my belly for support. Talk to your doc of course, but if it feels comfy enough you should be fine.
