Does anyone have experience with silent reflux? My son is 6 wks old and has been on previcade for 2 wks. I don't think it's helping. I just stopped nursing as well. What is a good formula to use and helpful remedies? Thank you!

What can I do next?

My son suffered from silent reflux bad, We tried previcade, zantac, sleep wedge everything. Poor kid was in so much pain, never smiled, always cried didn't sleep for more then 1-2 hours at a time. Untill we got him into a good chiropractor at 7 months he changed within three adjustments. Slept 15 hours in a row after his third adjustment. Amazing. I would highly suggest it. He was so tight in his upper body that once he loosened up he was 1000 times better. Sorry both you and your child have to go through this.

My DS suffered with reflux until he was almost a year old. Elevate him whenever you lay him down. This will help keep the acid from coming up so quickly. They sell sleep positioners almost everywhere nowadays or you can roll up towels and put under his mattress. My DS did much better in a bouncy seat than lying down in his bassinett. Burp, burp and burp him again! Don't overfeed him. Lots of reflux babies want to "comfort feed" because the milk soothes as it is going down, but it only makes the acid worse. (that was the hardest part for me--when they cry and act hungry, naturally you want to feed them). I don't have a good recommendation of formula. I breast fed him as long as I could and none of the formulas I tried seemed to be any different from each other.

GL and hang in there Mama. Hopefully he will outgrow it once he starts solids.

Also, most reflux meds are weight based so keep that in mind if it seems to start losing effectiveness sometimes. He just might need his dosage adjusted.

There are MANY medications in that drug class besides Prevacid that are FDA approved for infants.

Your pediatrician and pharmacist really are the best guides to help determine which is best for you. I used to sell one of the medications, my husband used to sell a competitor, but at the end of the day, each patient responds slightly differently to each medication.

It's OK to question your pediatrician and to get more advice from them until your child is back to normal.
You may also need to ask for a referral to a Pediatric Gastroenterologist if things don't improve.
Here's what the American Academy of Pediatrics says:

I agree with Carmen. My doctor put mu baby on previcade at about 2 months, I really didn't want here on medicine like that so little, so I started getting her adjusted every week, it really does work!! Gas was better, slept better, spit up is minimal and not painful! Try it!

As the other 2 posts have stated - I have heard being adjusted can really help with it. I have had 2 friends who had their newborns adjusted and they slept better and were much happier babies.

I haven't personally had my children adjusted, but like I said have heard great things about it. I would check out the office before hand and would get recommendations before just going to any office.

Good luck!
