Hi Ladies...

I am looking for any and all advice, suggestions, thoughts, and experiences. My 8 month old daughter has been sick for a month straight! Just as it seems as it is getting a little better, the next day it is 2X worse. Coughing, runny nose (both clear and yellow-green), and now vomitting. She hasn't really had a fever, 101 at the highest and for not more than a day. She's been to the DR. 3X...no infection/bacterial...viral.
She sleeps on an angle w/ a humidifier, i use saline mist w/ the bulb suction...I'm at a loss.

My son (25 months) does attend preschool (she does not), so i know he brings home A TON of germs, but a month????

soooo???? any ideas?

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

Have you tried taking her to an allergist yet, maybe her body is reacting to a new food or something she is coming in contact with. Just a thought! www.DiscoveryToysLink.com/LisaRyan

Have you considered Asthma or allergies? I know everytime my daughter gets a cold, it seems to trigger asthma like symptoms as well as cause her allergies to go haywire. She ends up being on Asthma medication and Claritin for at least 10 days before the symptoms finally subside. You may want to talk to her doctor about putting her on asthma medication for 10 days and see if that helps. Good luck. Eventually the immune system does get built up and they are able to fight off colds much easier as they get older.

M.,
I'm so sorry you and your baby have this challenge. Sounds to me like you're trying everything you can find to make her comfortable and regain her health.

There have been lots of good suggestions already. When my kids were little, I did my best to keep everything clean. So, I sprayed everything with Lysol, bleached the diapers and used lots of Pinesol, Mr Clean, Tide and Pledge. Now I know better.

Today, we use only non-toxic products. It's made a big difference in our lives. To see the products we use, my MamaSource Business Listing is here: www.mamasource.com/business/11642965894153371649

Replacing products that have harmful chemicals with non-toxic "green" products may not solve the whole problem, but it WILL make a difference.

I wish you the best of health and happiness.

You may want to get a second opinion. My childrens' doctor is very smart and has years of experience and I would highly recommend her. Her name is Kaneez Agha and she is at Wickham Pediatrics. Their number is ###-###-####. I know for a fact she accepts Medicaid but am not sure what other insurances.
A child who is only 8 months old should not be sick that much. There must be a cause for it. It may be that it's something very simple and her doctor has just overlooked it. Doctors are only human. I have 5 children who see Dr. Agha and she has always impressed me with her vast knowledge of pediatrics.
Good luck and I hope little Ella Sofia is well soon. (What a beautiful name).
PS. After reading some other responses, the dust mite allergy theory sounds possible and is very fixable...buy a plastic sheet protector (found in Wal Mart, Kmart, etc.) and that should keep the mites from affecting her. If this isn't what's causing her sickness/allergies, it will still be good to keep her bed sanitary. You should also wash all the bedding in hot water to make sure there's nothing on them.

Stay strong mom but one good advice you did already receive is removing some of the chemicals from your home Melalluca is a good choice but also check Schakely products, both are good and your budget may dictate what you choose.
Another way to go is do a little research on the lymphatic system and massage, very easy and may help brake up some of the toxins in her body and give her some comfort (do not massage when she has a fever). If you have not done so already make sure she is getting as much sleep as possible.
My 11th month old went through the same thing for about 2 months when she was about six months. Hang in there mom

It sounds to me like she has allergies. My son had similiar symptoms and the doctor tried everything until he had a hard time breathing and was rushed to the emergency room. After his bloodwork was checked come to find out my son is allergic to soy and orange juice. I had no clue that an allergic reaction could bring on such a response but it did. I would advise you have the doctor run a blood test on your daughter to ee if she may be having an allegic reaction to something.

Hi, M.!
Seems like yours daughter is teething. Check for a new teeth :) You can use an Orajel for pain relieve, (you can buy it in Walgreen's).
For fever Infant Motrin - Call Your pediatrician ask for dosage. Also for gums pain relieve buy her a teething ring, wash in boiled water, put in fridge and give it to her (cold will relieve the gums pain).
Good luck!
Best wishes,

Hi M.,

I don't really have any suggestions, but I "completely" understand what your going through... My son has been the same way on and off for about 6 weeks.. I thought it was teeth, a ear infection, a cold, a virus, etc........ I "personally" think there's just colds and viruses going around and there catching it... 4 weeks ago he got the stomach virus 2x's (even gave it to my husband), on and off dirrahea, then he had a little fever (about 101) about 3 weeks ago and yesterday, he's had a runny (snotty) nose on and off for 6 weeks... So I don't have any advice, I just wanted to say I'm going through the same kind of situation with my 17 month old son... I use a humidifier and it didn't do anything... When he's cranky I give him Motrin, when he runs a fever I put him in a luke-warm bath.....I've brought him to the doctor 2x's and there's not much to do UNLESS it was a ear infection... There's a lot of mom's going through the same kind of situations..... GOOD LUCK!!!!

I dont know of this helps. I was just conversing with a mom who had the same problem with her child. In her case she lives in a building where her neighbor from updtairs would sweep her pigeon poop from her balcony down This fell on her a/c. This would filter in the a/c and the room was full of this nasty bacteria and she never even knew it. Thank god they discovered this and the baby has been well ever since. maybe not the same in your case but you could star by checking the surroundings. Good luck

Hey M.,
You might want to have her tested for allergies, I had the same problem with my son Brian (9) and after years of ear infections and constant colds and coughs a friend suggested getting him tested and is now taking meds for allergies. Also, make sure you change the filter on the humidifier and keep it clean sometimes a dirty humidifier can make kids sicker. I hope she gets better!

My friend's 3 year old son has similar ailments and has been constantly at the doctor since he was one. The pediatrician thought it may be allergies/sinus infection. However, he did not have the vomitting. That concerns me if your 25 month old doesn't have any of these symptoms. Is she eating, sleeping and playing normally?

HI
I have a baby and a school child too and my pediatrician suggested the following:
When the eldest comes home from school, wash his hands and change his shirt.
Eat and feed a healthy diet, especially if you nurse.
It's working for us.
Good luck!

Have you tried an allergist? My son seemed sickest at night and in the morning. After having allergy test we found out that it was because he was so allergic to dust mites, (which are found in bedding) that he was ill all night and for hours in the morning. Special bedding, and using hot water to wash all blankets and sheets, and some other allergy items, like AC filters and spray fixed the problem completely.

I found that taking all the harsh chemicals and toxins out of my home made a world of difference in my home. My daughter had nose bleeds all the time, until I changed my products to melaleuca products. I found our immune systems were allot stronger when we started taking her vitamins.Every day common cold are no longer a worry for my daughter and I. While everyone in her class have these chronic coughs, my daughter is fine. If she gets something, it does not last 1 day or 2 and she's fine. Call me I love to share the information. I will tell you how you make simple changes that make a world of difference. T.. ###-###-#### www.mommyandme4life.com

I'm so sorry your having a tough time with your little one.
What foods do you have her on? Possibly she is alleric to something. I would recommend trying 1 food for a few days and see if you can figure out if it's something causing the problem. Also she seems seneitive tos omething so I would use a natural skin care line for her. ABC by Arbonne has a fantastic line of wash/shampoo, lotion, oil and diaper rash cream.

So many kids problems comes from chemicals and foods so i hope my suggestions help.

Well, I know this sounds a little crazy but it can't hurt.... When your son comes home from school, take off all of his clothes and shower him. Then change him into a clean set of clothes. I hope that helps.
