Showering Alone

My niece started when she was 5 or 6 - but she can be trusted to clean herself. My son is almost 8 and he still needs supervision. It really depends on the kid.

My son always liked a shower. At about 5 I would let him do it alone but would check his progress. He liked to use ALOT of shampoo/soap. Once I got him soap/shampoo with a pump, showers worked great!
1 pump for hair/neck/chest/arms/pits and 1 pump for belly/butt/legs/feet.

My daughter started at 7, she is 8 now. I still turn the water on and frequently check on her.

My son was showering by himself when he was six. He started getting a shower before my alarm went off. My daughter is eight and still prefers a bath. I think it depends on the child.

My one son will be 7 in a few weeks and he has been washing himself for almost a year now. I do pop my head in every once in a while and say, "Did you get your neck? Under your arms? etc." because I know he still forgets. I also check his hair even now to make sure he rinsed well.

I guess 7 seems to be the consensus ;-) . My kids were around 7yrs as well when they started showering on their own. WIth my daughter we just needed to check that she had gotten all the shampoo and conditioner out of her thick hair- which she figured out by 9yrs. My son 8yrs now, the speed demon, sometimes has to be checked whether he actually did it - 'Did you wash your hair? Oh, yes! Hmmmmm then why is it dry?' =-)

Bath is a different ballgame - I would let them bath but with the door open so I could be in and around. That one I am not as 'easy' about - but we also have one kid with epilepsy.

My son showers alone now at 7. The reason I waited a little longer is that our shower is in a bathtub and I was concerned his getting in and out. I just come in at the end to make sure all the soap is off. When he wants a bath I just run the water for him and he does all the cleaning I am in at the end to make suer he exits without incident as he has fallen in and out of the tub a couple of times, he moves too fast(lol).

I thought 7 yrs. old was old enough. Obviously not, we have had soap left in hair and "just rinsed" look as opposed to actually washing. I am not expecting to be out of the bathroom until closer to 10 yrs. old.

My son is 7 and he still wants a bath. I think sometimes that I'll be bathing him on Prom Night!
(On vacation, he will get a shower--with help.)

my 6 yr old cant. He just doesn't get clean. My older one was 7 or 8.

We actually started my daughter just before she turned 6, only because I am pregnant and leaning over the tub sucks! Turns out, she likes taking showers, but she still needs a little help. We turn on the water for her and then check to make sure all of the shampoo is rinsed, otherwise, she can shower like a champ! Will make it easier when the baby comes for sure.

My daughter is 7... and she now does it all by herself.
I always check on her though... no matter what age, accidents can happen. But ability wise, my daughter can do it now... shower, wash her hair, condition her hair etc.

Aga has nothing to do with it watsh how they do watch mthem when they preform the way you want that is the time to be on their own raised 4 now have 7 chrildren A. no hills
