I had my 4th child on Jan 2 2009 by c-section and tubes tided at the same time. Along with scar tissue removed. I had the after bleeding and my cycle in Feb the first week. Now this is march and no cycle. Went to my 6week check up and the doc said that everything was fine. I am not brestfeeding. Not having syptoms that my period is coming. But ceratin smells make me feel sick. I know that tube tieing is not alaways garntedd. Is there a chance that i could get prego? The doctors said that they had a hard time getting to the tubes due to scar tissue. If you where in the same place, what would you think or do? I feel lost and a little scared. Never had this proublem before. Any and all adive would be helpful.

If the issue is that you are wondering if you are pregnant or not--I would get a test. It will be better to know O. way or the other. Good luck!

I would definitely get a test, just to put your mind at rest. My guess you are not pregnant, but if you are you should ask your doc for an early ultrasound since the risk of a tubal pregnancy is greater after a tubal ligation failure.

If the test is negative, it probably is just your hormones settling back down. You can ask your doc to do some bloodwork, as certain hormonal issues can become evident after a pregnancy, in particular thyroid conditions. Also, issues with prolactin are sometimes revealed following a pregnancy (happened to me).

Good luck!

Consult your physician. Ask them what are the chances that your tubes aren't tied after the surgery. Ask them if you can get a test or something to be able to tell for sure if it worked.

if you are worried do a pregnancy test. it also takes awhile for the body to return to normal in terms of homones. my coworker has her tubes tied and i think she did not get her period til her son was around 4-5 months old.

I would take a test once you've missed your period, if you do. It's not unusual after birth to not be regular. Remember, your body is trying to bounce back from pregnancy and surgery. My body is still trying to find it's norm since having my triplets over 4 years ago, lol. You're body has give birth 3 times including twins. Your body is going to be resonding odd and can very well change. There hasn't been enough time to know if your cycles will change since the last delivery. I was "fixed" after my last pregnancy too and am on the pill as well just so I can have regular periods and helps to regulate my hormones so I don't feel nuts, lol! Give yourself and your body time. Take a test after your period is due, just to give you peace of mind and talk to your doc.

Hi,

I had a c-section and my tubes tied in October. I called the doctor because I had not had a period yet. I was told that it can take up to 6 months for your cycle to return to normal. I just got my period a few days ago exactly 4 months after delivery. If you're still concerned I would call you Doctor. Good luck and Congratulations!

I would think that your body is still adjusting. I'm sure the procedure was done correctly even w/ the scar tissue. If there was that much scar tissue wouldn't that make getting pregnant even more difficult? And if you were just at the doc they would have known if you were pregnant, but if you really are worried it doesn't hurt to test.

L.,
Gettting your tubes tied can happen in one way or a combination of ways:cut, tied, burned and a piece thrown away.Depending on the procedure you had done, usually one in 700 get pregnant again.
After the birth of a child, most doctors will tell you it takes 6 months to a year for your body to return to normal. Your symptoms could just be your hormones changing, but to be on the safe side I would do a pregnancy test.A visit with your gynecologist is recommended.

I hope this can help.
First of all, I would take a pregnancy test, just for peace of mind. As a matter of fact, I would continue taking tests once a week till I felt certain I wasn't. It's better to at least know and begin getting used to the idea or know for sure your not and be able to relax...either way I would rather know, so I would take a test and keep taking tests till I felt confident with the result.
However, as to the rest of the situation...I also had a c-section, tubes tied and removal of scar tissue with my 4 1/2 month old son, so I understand your concerns.
However, with my daughter (who is now 3 1/2 yrs) I had many of the same symptoms you are describing. I had many hit and miss periods after I had her and I started constant birth control within 2 weeks of her delivery. It took me at least a year before smells and foods stopped making me sick (just like morning sickness!). I told my husband, rather than the usual 6 months expected full recovery from the c-section, it was closer to 18 months. Before I got pregnant with my daughter, I had very precise periods, but after I had her they were very random, sometimes after 2 weeks sometimes after 5-7 weeks, sometimes I would completely miss a whole month. Now looking back, I know that my hormones were really off. I never fully recovered, till I got pregnant with my son. I told my husband I felt better in the first month of my pregnancy than I had since I delivered our daughter...now, knowing that, if I were to go through it again, I would look into finding a hormone specialist, I don't know where you'd find one, but I have heard of them...Suzanne Somers has a book on hormones and she speaks about experts on hormones, so I assume there are some out there.
Again, I hope this helps, and good luck!

This is one of those rare times when I would not suggest you call your doctor first. If your body continues to make you wonder about pregnancy, purchase an EPT and take the test. If it comes out positive, DEFINATELY call the doctor. And if it comes out positive, maybe the perfect man wouldn't mind a quick vasectomy ? (mine has one, and it's been wonderful not to worry about pregnancies !)

However, that said, I noticed a couple of months ago that my sense of smell was a whole lot stronger than usual -- and it made me wonder -- in spite of the fact that we did the vasectomy 12 years ago, and I'm menopausal . . . I think sometimes we just worry about pregnancies cuz we are women.

That said, I have a friend who is about 45 who got her tubes tied many moons ago, has 5 kids, all adults, and 3 grandchildren, and figured out that somehow she got pregnant. She and her husband talked it over and said, "Oh, well, if we are, we are. We can raise one more." Then she found herself in a whole lot of pain, and discovered she had a tubal pregnancy.

So, don't ignore what you feel, but do buy the test. And if it's positive, pay attention to your body. Be sure everything is as it should be. :-)

And best of luck ! It sounds like you've got a busy and happy household !
