Hi everyone! I was wondering if we should have our daughter sign her passport? Her signature isn't very good yet so we are not for sure what to do?

What can I do next?

My daughter was 9 when we cruised and I don't think she signed her passport. They looked at it for about 2 seconds and both times did not say anything about it not being signed. My 4 year olds is also not signed. If they made a issue about it she could do it there.

Yes, Ours did at age 5, we told her to use her best handwriting signing it made her quite proud. She is a teenage now and just go a replacement which she signed again.

I say yes. My daugther is 6 and can write her name in cursive. Your daughter is 7 and writes her name is school. Just tell her to do is slowly and her best penmanship. Kids on avg begin writing their names at 3-4 which means she should have a few years down.

Yes-
My mother has worked in the banking business for years. She made me sign my SS card as soon as I could. I still have it to this day signing it at age 6. If she can sign it, please do so.

If she can sign her name then yes she should sign it even if it's not that good. Otherwise you or your husband need to sign it and put mother/father next to your signed name.

The passport is not valid unless signed. If your daughter is able to sign then she should. Otherwise, you need to sign it with your name. I had our 5 year old daughter sign hers. She is not used to writing so small so I helped guide her hand.

Yes have her sign the passport. When our kids got theirs (military) they had to sign them and then they were stamped across the picture to make sure that they were not forged. American passports (for children) are a big ticket item on the black market. Otherwise you sign and note father/mother behind the signature. If in doubt contact the post office for whoever is doing your passports. The other S.

Yes, the passport must be signed. A passport with no signature is not valid, and I'm surprised to hear some commenter's say they didn't have a problem when presenting a minor's unsigned passport. We had to get my son a passport when he was 2 months old (was born in Tokyo. We're US citizens). If the minor cannot sign their own signature, then one parent must sign (their OWN name) followed by their relationship to the child (i.e., write "mother" or "father" after your name). Sounds like your daughter CAN sign her own name, though, so let her do so. Some adults I know don't have signatures that are "very good" either... Customs officials don't care how "good" or "legible" your signature is, just that it's YOURS. Hope this helps.
