Should I Take My Two Year Old to the Dr ?

Earlier today my son ran out of the restroom as I was getting ready to take him a bath, he ran to his aunties room and stepped on a little piece of glass due to her breaking a mason jar a few days ago. I picked him up and saw that he had a little blood but I couldn’t feel the glass. So I’m assuming he doesn’t have it no more , he’s acting normal and with no pain. Should I still take him to the pediatrician ?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your comments. He’s perfectly fine. I did not take him to the dr. I was just worrying a little too much.

if his foot is red and swollen? Soak it in epson salt water for about 30 minutes (if you can get him to sit still that long).

If there is no pain, redness, swelling or long-term bleeding? i wouldn't take him to the pediatrician.

M. - welcome to mamapedia.

Is he in pain?
Is he still bleeding?
You say no. Then why would you take him to the doctor?

Without being rude? It's called common sense. You don't need to run to the doctor for every little thing. If he's NOT BLEEDING and IN NOT PAIN??? No need to go to the doctor.

Maybe you should vacuum your daughter's room to ensure there is no more glass on the floor?

Why are you asking us? We can't diagnose over the Internet and we are not Dr.'s!

Why are you asking? Does it hurt? Is it swollen? Infected? Causing him to limp?

This sounds more like basic first aid and common sense. However, if you're concerned..Call the nurse and get a medical opinion.

I know it's hard but try to double and triple check when glass is broken so you don't have loose pieces laying around.

He might have had a sliver - if it were me, I would just wash the cut very well under running water, have a good look under a light and just bandage it up. If it's in there, it will swell and be red/raised and he won't be able to walk on it.

No - I personally wouldn't. But I've done this to myself before and just had those tiny cuts from broken glass. They are just on the surface and more like a little sharp scrape.

I’m a glass artist and frequently get glass in my foot since I wear Flip flops often when working.

If he had glass in his foot it would hurt and he would be limping. Also, when I get glass in my foot, I use a over the counter drawing salve from any drug store. The glass always works it’s way out in a few days.

Guess I wouldn't take him to the doctor.
But I'd vacuum every inch of that floor several times over to get all the broken glass
fragments up.

If this were my child and I wasn't sure what to do, I'd call the pediatrician's office, discuss the injury, and ask for advice. I'm sure I'd get a much better and faster answer than going on the internet.

You can call for free during regular hours, and you can call in the evening and on-weekends for non-emergency questions like this. If your pediatrician discourages such phone calls from worried parents (especially of infants and toddlers), you should find another pediatrician who welcomes your concerns.

i myself don't take kids to the pediatrician for unless there's an illness or injury beyond the scope of what i can deal with at home.

i'm a little surprised that this is a question from a mom who isn't still new at it.

clean up the blood, clean up the glass THOROUGHLY, and go on with your day.

time will tell. If it gets swollen, red, warm, puss, anything weird, take him in! If not, it's just a little cut, put some triple ointment on it, cover and keep clean.

Just keep an eye on it for infection, but I would assume that if the glass was still in there he would be in pain when he walked.

Why would you take him to his pediatrician? He's acting normal and not in pain. I can't think of a reason for him to see a doctor. Are you usually this concerned about bumps and bruises?

acting normal and in no pain. then why would you even consider going to a dr?
keep an eye on it watch for signs of infection and if that happens then call the dr. but without signs of infection, theres no reason to see the dr about this

If you can't see the broken glass and can't feel and the child doesn't see or feel it,then it probably came out already

I would soak his foot in warm water with epsome salt, if you have it. And then take a close look at it to make sure you got all the glass out. Then bandage him up with a dab of neosporin and he should be good to go.
