Should I Take My 1 Year Old to Disneyland?

Hello,

I am trying to decide if I should take my 1 year old to Disneyland with myself, husband and my 3 year old. I have an option of leaving him with his grandmother or taking grandma so she can watch him while we go on rides that he cannot. I know there are a lot of rides that have no height limit and my oldest is only 3 so its not like he can go on many rides due to height requirements. Would a 1 year old enjoy it? He normally naps 2 times a day and Im pretty sure that when he gets tired he will nap in the stroller for a while.

What do you guys think? Have you taken a 1 year old to Disneyland? What was your experience?

Thanks

What can I do next?

Take Grandma! We did a trip with my son who is 3 and my grandbaby who is 1 and had a really fun time. The little one enjoyed the colors and music. She was wide eyed the whole time. Grandma can watch him if he needs a nap and in the evening you can go out without any kids. We did Disney World for New Year's Eve this year and Disneyland 2 times already this summer. SOOO much fun even with the little ones! I enjoyed Disneyland more because it's much more compact and has just as much cool stuff.

hi there
if babies are FREE, then well ok... however, in my opinion, the child WON'T remember it. In my opinion, it's when they are closer to 5 that they really get your money's worth at Disneyland. I took my son when he was 3... and sure, he had some fun.. but not nearly as much as when he turned 6... it was then that he really wanted to go on different rides.. below 4 years (again, in my opinion) I think there are much cheaper things you can do with your child and they will find them just as much fun...
whatever you decide, enjoy!

To take your 1 yr old depends on how much fun YOU want to have. I personally wouldn't do it. Not taking him will allow you to enjoy every moment of watching your other child enjoy the magic Disneyland.

I went to Disneyland when I was 6 and have no memory of it! In fact, I found my Mickey Mouse ears w/ my name on them when I was in college - I was shocked to learn we had gone to Disneyland! And bummed I have no memory of it :(

Personally, I might leave my son behind with the grandmother. It will be sweltering there, no doubt, and probably not a ton of fun for the 1 year old. I think it would be a great day for you to get to spend with just your 3 year old, who could probably use a day with just Mommy & Daddy.

OMG! Take him!!! He will LOVE it. So what if it isn't easy for you...seeing him on the kid rides and the characters and the atmosphere - TAKE HIM!! Our son was two when we went, but the original trip was planned for when he was 1...I would NEVER leave any of my kids home from a vacation like that. I would NOT leave him. The family I used to nanny for left their 20 month old home with my while they took their almost 4 year old on a week long vacation one time...it still breaks my heart that they did that. Take him wth you...he will have a blast!

I agree with Erica...it may be slightly more "stressful" to have your 1 year old along, but trust me, your 3 year old will be just as exhausted at the end of the day! I am a firm believer in family vacations, so that probably plays a big part in why I would never want to leave the youngest out. There will be plenty of babies older and younger than he is (if all goes "according to plan", I may be taking a 1 month old to Disney with us this up coming year...what are you going to do?!?!)!

You can definitely take a one year old to DL and have a lot of fun. Pretty much the only ride your older child can do that the younger one can't is Autopia. It'll be fun to go with the whole family and you'll have happy memories, nice pictures, etc to remember the trip. And yes, the little one will enjoy the rides and all the sights, parades, etc.

No. Leave the one-year-old with grandma. I think it is WAY too much stimulation for a baby. Take your older child and have fun. Make it a special day for the three of you. After having little brother around for a year, he might get a kick out of a good time with just him and Mommy and Daddy.

I have been to Disneyworld with just my (then) 3 year old last summer and then this year I took all 3 of mine (ages 4, almost 2 and 7 months). It really depends on you. It was great last year with just the 1 child, she was at the perfect age for it (according to some Disney book I bought, the best age to go was 4) and I got to experience it all with her. This year, it was difficult trying to enjoy all the adorable moments and looks of awe with the older ones, because I was dealing with the 7 month old. But all three enjoyed it and napped in the strollers. If you don't mind switching off riding the rides with your husband, so one can stay with the baby on rides the 1 year old can't go on, take the 1 year old! But if you want to go on all the rides with your 3 year old and husband, best idea is to leave with Grandma or bring Grandma! Have fun!

Leave grandma and baby at home to enjoy the day together!!! A 1 year old is really not going to enjoy Disneyland, too young and will just get cranky, and you will just end up frustrated. Your 3 year old is old enough to enjoy it, but don't push too hard and take several breaks throughout the day.

When my son was 6 months we took him. Of course he didn't do much and slept but he did like the characters (we also did the character breakfast at Goofy's kitchen and he loved it! We still have pictures of that day), it's a small world, the parade, and the lights at night. He loved the shops with all the stuffed animal toys and generally looking around from his stroller. We had a great time with him although we weren't able to do much. There is a baby care center by main street where I changed diapers and such. That memory of him seeing Disneyland for the first time was amazing and he still remembers it! Hope you have a grand time!

I have never been to Disneyland but we usually go to disney world twice a year and we have two kids 4 & 18 months! The oldest has been going with us since she was 9 months old and has been/done great everytime! My youngest has been once and we are going back the first of September! They love going and I'm very blessed to get to offer them this experience as I didn't get it when I was little! Go for it and have a blast!!!

I say go for it! I've seen infants from the age of about 2 days old at Disney World and the parents were getting along just fine. We had alot of people tell us our children wouldn't enjoy Disney World at the age of 2 because they were too young; I'm sorry to tell those people that my kids still remember everything and were in heaven...as a matter of fact, they are on countdowns to go back as soon as we return home from our trips. I don't see why Disneyland would be all that different. Have a great time!
