Should I Get Rid of It or Not?

We're upgrading our queen size mattresses to king size (YAY!)... but our house is smaaaaall. Our room is pretty jam packed as it is, and I'm wondering if it's time to sell my treadmill :( I've had this thing for 5 years and really only use it in the winter when it's miserably cold out and getting exercise outside isn't an option. I'm SOOOO reluctant to let it go (they're not cheap!) I'd have to do some serious rearranging to even lay it out to use it, and I'm wondering if it's worth the struggle. My husband's been wanting it gone for years (I told him once he gets his stupid stingray row rider bicycle out, I'll get rid of the treadmill, because THAT will NEVER happen)... I've just held on for it for so long, only to use it seasonally, I wonder if it's even worth keeping at this point. I know I'll regret it once it's gone, but we really, really don't have ANY other space for it (seriously, NO WHERE else to put it)...

So should I keep it or get rid of it? It's just such a pain when I'm NOT using it, but I'll miss it once it's gone... What would you do?

Treadmills are a huge, ugly elephant in the room. I vote to get rid of it, and find more interesting ways to work out. Try a workout DVD, as suggested, or just bundle up and go for a walk or run outside.

Sell it to me!!

Here is what I would do. Price it on the high end of reasonable. If someone bites, great, you get your money's worth. If not, keep it.

That is what I do when I am unsure about parting with something.

But, your "something" is pretty big!

Sell it! Buy a workout DVD with the money - and a new outfit!!

I like the idea of selling it and using the money for workout DVD, Wii, or XBox w/Kinect, etc. Do you think you would use one of those? Or would you miss the treadmill too much? Our treadmill is in the lower level (we have a split) but I don't use it that often either. Got Jillian Michaels 30 day shred DVD that I've been using recently. But if you sell it - make sure you get something for YOU if he doesn't get rid of his bicyle ;-)

is there a place to store it during the warmer months? Then bring it back out in the winter? Like the garage or shed? If not, I would get rid of it. You are making room for a bigger bed and need the space. Put both yours and his on craigslist. Use the money to buy new bedding and update the master bath to match. Or maybe he would go for selling his also, if you can get something you both want, like a wii fit. He get sa wii and you get fit!

My motto is, if you havn't used it or looked at it in 6 months - GET RID OF IT. Think of what you could do with the extra room, and if you sell it you could buy that something you have been dying for, or maybe check out some equipment that can be easily stored for your winter workout.

You already said that you'll regret it once it's gone. HOW LONG will you regret it? You'll be thrilled that you have the room in your house, but then you'll be bummed come winter-time. In the winter, I say try something different. A DVD workout or something. I would opt for space, but that's just me.

I like Scarlett's idea to sell high so you will be pleased if you do sell it, pleased (this winter) if you don't.

If you are not using it now...you never will. Congrats on the bigger bed. Got a King myself and can't imagine anything smaller. Take the money and join a gym or as below...buy a new outfit and a workout DVD.

Hi R.,

I would get rid of it! I would take a little less cluttering anytime and opt to do DVD cardio exercises on those winter days when it's just too cold to exercise outside.

I guess the question for YOU though is.... Which is worse... the PAIN it causes by feeling cramped or MISSING it? Will you be able to tolerate the clutter more or deal with the loss of the treadmill?

Take care,

J.

SOme gyms, in our colder climate areas, will do winter packages. I hear commercials all the time for them around here. Probably due to the crummy economy the last few years? I would look around for a cheapie, but safe gym as an alternative...and see if they offer any limited months/winter packages...then sell that thing!

We had a space crunch, and had a higher end Elliptical to sell. I got good money for it...had 2 foot surgeries in one year, healed up, then a new gym chain opened near us and we got a great intro pricing deal! I don't even feel bad if I don't go for months, the price is so good!

Many health insurance plans offer discounts for gym attendance..ours doesn't (stinks) but I know many of our pals who attend the same place we do get $20 a month off if they are checked in 12 times a month...some cheat and just log in and then leave (there is no log out), or they go sit in the hot tub, etc. Oh well..not a perfect system like most!

Good Luck!

Keep it.

We just upgraded to a pillow top king. Yay. We have a small bedroom too, with our huge elliptical in it. We had to sell it...I already miss it.
