Shortness of Breath During Pregnancy

Hi Moms -
I am currently 5 months pregnant with my 3 child. I seem to have more difficulty breathing this time. I get short winded with almost every task and have trouble catching my breath. I'm wondering if any other moms have suffered with this? Maybe I am carrying too much weight this time? My next doctor visit isn't for another 2 weeks. Should I be concerned and try to see the doc sooner? Thanks!
R.

Hi there -- me too! I'm just about 22 weeks and have been short of breath since about week 14,just going up stairs or cleaning. This is my 3rd pregnancy, and i didn't exp this in first 2 pg's. I've also acquired a new malady -- asthma, which i am hoping goes away after delivery. Doc says it's just my body saying to take it easy. Are you also having braxton hicks already? Have to say, first 2 pgs were so easy, non-hormonal, i was out shovelling mulch at 9 mos w/ last pg, am not overweight, figure every pg is going to treat you differently! Am sure you already do this, but when you do feel short of breath SIT DOWN right away and take a 1 min break to regain oxygen. Take some deep breaths, do some yoga and stretching a few times a day for a few mins each time -- it helps me a lot. Now that spring is here, we'll be taking more walks (if my lungs are willing!), and hopefully that will also help. Good luck hon!

My son kicked my rib out of socket and I still have difficulty (6 years later)... cause my rib, by the middle of my chest will "pop" and "poke out" -- don't know how else to explain it. Doctor said there was nothing they can do about it... Talk to your doctor when you go though... If you can't do a task without getting shirt winded - don't until you see your doctor. :D

I had this problem with my second pregnancy. I suffered from childhood asthma and it seemed to come back. For some reasons allergies were to blame. It's funny because for years beforehand this never bothered me. You should talk to your doctor about this.

Hi R.. I would definetly mention this to your doctor at your next visit, but it may be normal. I am 8 mos. pregnant with my 2nd and it has totally been different from my 1st. I have been having a much harder time and getting shorter on breath more easily as well. I am also pretty big, almost the same weight I was when I delivered my 1st! So, I feel you on this subject. Just make sure you let your doctor know of your concern and I'm sure you'll get the help you need. Hope this helps at least a little!
