I agree with Lisa, ultrasounds specialize in scaring moms! But if you do have a baby with dwarfism...just look at TLC's The Little Couple! She is a doctor, he is a successful businessman. Talk about living a full life!
Hello. I recently had an ultrasound for my 1 7 week twins. One of the babies is showing significantly smaller limbs. Like 1/2 the size of the other baby. Next week I see a specialist. Anyone experience this? It seems dwarfism is most likely. I'm scared, anyone been here before?

I'm curious because yours are twins (congrats!), please keep us posted. My first had "normal" sized limbs. My second's limbs measured unusually small from about 21 weeks until birth. The tech people scared me for no reason. She is *completely* normal. Found out after revealing to family, that her dad's side has a history of "short limbs" which aren't physically noticeable to most people. Some kids' arms and legs grow slower than others. Hoping that's what it is in your case, but you'll adore both babies of course. =) Please let us know how things go. Wishing you well with your pregnancy.
ultrasounds are very good at scaring people..
you will love baby no matter what..
Check out the dwarf (little person) on Game of Thrones. He's a hottie. First dwarf I ever had a crush on. It won't be so terrible, if that's the case. There are worse things than being little.
K.,
Hope all is well with you.If you feel like it, please send us an update. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers
When I was pregnant with my twins, one of them always measured bigger than the other. Baby A was always bigger, Baby B stayed at week 28 weight uptill delivery, she just was not gaining weight. When she was born, all the doctors were concerned, but boy did she make up. She now weighs more than her older sibling.
I was just as worried as you are, all I can recommend is wait for the specialists appointment, sometimes they lie differently and so measure differently.
Sending you warm wishes, lots of hugs and calming prayers.
I hope everything works out ok and that she is healthy. If it does turn out to be dwarfism, I suggest finding some support groups and/or resources, as people with dwarfism tend to have additional health conditions beyond their small stature. The good news is they can still live long, happy, productive lives. It does require extra care, medical attention, therapies, medical devices, etc. Being prepared prior to the birth can help make things a lot easier when the time comes around.
Sending you good thoughts!!
One of my daughter's friends has dwarfism. They do have more health issues in general (not this girl in specific), and if they go somewhere with a lot of walking she ends up in a stroller even though she's 6 just because she can't keep up, but otherwise is a normal, healthy, fun kid to be around.
My friends baby has a form of dwarfism, the baby is adorable and has no other medical issues, she is perfectly healthy, just a little on the shorter side :) There are certainly way worse things to be, try not to stress. At the very least wait until you get the entire picture from the specialist before freaking out.
I have a friend who's granddaughter has dwarfism as you describe. She is not even a year old and as beautiful as can be. I don't know a lot about this but I do know her daughter was scared to death because there isn't really a lot of information out there about this.
Looking at some of the answers, I don't think people understand there are different types of dwarfism. I know I didn't. I met a lady up at Costco who had this form. She is 5' but yes, if you look closely you will see her arms and legs do not match her torso. I guess my point is not knowing this form of dwarfism existed I never even noticed people with it, it is that hard to spot.
Dwarfism is a very manageable "special need".
The LP (little person) community is awesome too. If your baby does in fact have dwarfism of some kind, educate yourself and make contacts in the LP community. I think you'll be surprised and happy with what you find.
good luck,
e
My daughter was recently pregnant and scared to death from all the ultra sounds. They said the baby looked like her head was very small and that her insides were outside her body. She waited a very long, stressful week to get into the specialist and all was fine. She had many more ultrasounds from that point on and each time it seemed they said something, whether they meant to or not, that freaked her out. The baby is now two months old and is as perfect as can be. Many of her friends are also pregnant and have been having similar ultra sound stories. I guess I would try not to worry constantly and just wait until you go to the specialist. Chances are all is fine.
