Hello everyone, I am shopping for a portable DVD player to use for two upcoming trips - road trip and a flight. I would like for it to secure to the back of the headrest in the backseat.

What ever you do don't get the one for kids made by fisher price. Junk! They say it's not breakable, but it is even more breakable than a regular one is. Kidproof my butt!

I was just gonna rave about this DVD player I bought for my 19 mos. old for a plane trip we took, and saw the previous post about someone already raving about their Coby DVD player. I have to agree 100%! It is fantastic & very reasonably priced. I love all the attachments that come with it & it is perfect on a plane ride. Battery charges very quickly & works great in the car as well. Its also a slim player, fits right into my purse. Have fun on your trips!

I just ordered two of these for a trip we took last month. Worked perfectly on the plane (it has a little stand on the back to prop it upright on the tray). We had no problems with the battery life. Now they are installed on the headrests in our car with the included mounting straps. (I had a hard time finding many players that came with these straps!) Also comes with a power adapter to plug into your car's lighter, as well as a regular charger that you plug into the wall and a set of headphones. Overall, I'm very pleased! The site below is where I found the best price. Good luck & have fun on your trips!

Edited to add: We've purchased several DVD players for our kids over the years as we take frequent road trips. I've yet to find one that will last years & years! So my strategy this time was to find one that was less than $100. We recently paid $250 for a Phillips one that worked consistently less than a year - it's now hit or miss, which is not good on a long trip! Since I've resigned myself to this being a more frequent purchase than I'd like, I went the cheaper route this time!

Don't buy one. Why do we keep bombarding our kids with media. A car trip is the one place they can listen to music, listen to books on tape, have sing along and word games with you. Look out the window at different scenery, color, draw, read, do leap pad. Anything but watch more movies. They can do that at home. Take the plunge - go to your local library or get on line and see what books you can get on tape or great cds to sing along to.

We got a Sony and *love* it. Great battery life, totally saved us when our flight home from CA sat on the runway for 3.5 hours before takeoff!

Yes, I have a RCA and I got it at Target, it has great reviews. It is two screens and they were 9 inch screens. That attach to the headrest. I looked at Best Buy and the one that I bought I took back after I went online and read the reviews. We have had our RCA for about 5 months now with no problems at all. I also looked at Wal-mart and they did not have the one that attachs to the cigeratte lighter.
Hope this helps.

Several years ago, I purchased a "Brand X" portable 8" tv w/ build in DVD player and an adapter for the car. I think I paid a total of around 130-140. for the unit and adapter total. We really like it because the screen is larger than most portables. It's also used when someone is sick and needs to be 'quarantined' or someone has a guest over, it can easily be put on a desk or dresser. We have gotten more than our money's worth out of it and it has caused us less troubles (none) than the portable units my friends have.

We've used audiovox. Our previous one had a rechargeable battery. It still works but we bought a new set. It has 2 screens. You can watch the same thing on both screens or different dvds. Down side is that it requires wires to do so. We've bought other brands that have not lasted. They do attach to the back of the seat. We bought ours at Target. Good luck.

Well all i can say is good luck. I have foudn that the portables are great to entertain but be prepared they break quickly and easily. They all hvae like a 60-90 day policy. Granted we may be harder on ours I suppose with 3 kids. I woudl jsut say be prepared. I had the Coby, it broke, I then bought the Disney one and was very happy. I put it away for the next road trip pulled it out to find the dvd doesn't work... The monitors do so I bought a super cheap DVD player and use only the monitors... jsut saying be prepared for it NOT to last... They do a great job of entertaining on a long road trip but the manufacturere even said that the lasers get damaged easily and so portables just don't last very long... Good Luck.

I like buying the Best Buy brand-Insignia. If it is defective within a year (or if it breaks and you are a good negotiator), you can exchange it for a brand new one and then the year timeline starts over again.

I have an Insignia from a couple of years ago. Its rechargeable battery in inside instead of a clip on and the screen can turn around and fold down so it is like a tablet instead of a laptop.
