You pretty much want to have harder candy in it. I would say gummy snacks still in packs (LOL, it rhymed) would work well too. Peanuts in the shell depending on allergies or such too

silly bands, stickers, small little yoyos, little packages of nerds candies or tootsie rolls, small bottles of bubbles or mini play-dough, washable tattoos....
If he doesn't still eat toys, you could get Squinkies (at Target, tiny rubbery toys that come in a little plastic bubble). Smarties candy works well, doesn't melt.
Its usually hard or gummy candies. Just fill it as much as you want. I wouldnt make it too heavy though, it might be hard to hang.
Sounds like a great party! Have fun. Im jealous of your beach! :(
Bouncy balls! And Smarties! And suckers!
I have never seen a pinata work at a toddler party....we finally had one at my 6 yo bday this year and still did not work well. the kids can never bust it open and then there are sticks flying everywhere. and are little toys or candy really appropriate for 2 year olds? keep it until she is 6 or 7. in my experience the 2 yo crowd really doesn't need much more than their toys, friends and cake to make it a fun party. sorry to be a pooper but I am just telling you my own experience.

We have done pinatas in a couple of different way. you can be really fair by filling the pinata with pre packed bags of candy and toys (and then each kid can pick up one bag). Or you can just fill the pinata up with small toys and candy (pick candy that you don't mind your child eating like dum dum lollipops, smarties, m&m's etc). For toys: silly bands, bouncy balls, stamps, bubbles etc. You can also put in small bags of fruit snacks etc if you don't want as much candy. Good luck and have fun! If you got a pinata that you have to hit with a bat to break to be forewarned you may need to weaken the structure with a few extra cuts (we have used a knife) as it is very hard to break for the younger kids! they make pull string ones that work best for little kids!
Go to Dollar Tree (if you have) and get birthday favors (like four or eight packs of 3 pc. crayons or tops, small parachute guys, bags of army men) smarties candies are good, I bet the dollar store has bags of pre wrapped smaller type candies, too. There may be bags of ocean themed smaller toys like whales and sharks. Have so much fun!!

If you go somewhere like iParty or any party supply store, they typically have big bags of assorted candy that are just right for stuffing into a pinata.
Tehehe, Nina, how old were your kids when they started eating toys! Sorry, couldn't resist!!
Don't forget the Grown-Up Pinata, you know filled with mojitos, margaritas, and uh, other goodies!!!
:)
Rocks!!! that look of shock and dissappointment is priceless for pictures. :p
Just kidding..
Candy, sometimes that junky toy stuff but that just seems like a waste of money to me so just candy.
Can you buy one already filled? So much easier!!!
Happy Birthday to your precious boy! So exciting!
