"Share" Feature Below Questions

I'm not new to Mamapedia. I'm one who has been here since Mamasource. But apparently I'm not very observant. Today I accidentally brushed my finger across the "share"option below a question and the sharing options popped up.

Does this mean that anyone can share what I've said here to (public) social media? How long has this feature been in place?

I'm honestly embarrassed that I'm just now seeing it.

What can I do next?

I noticed this recently. I think it's new. The ability to share is not what caused the "cat walk disaster." Mamapedia staff posted the question on the Mamapedia Facebook page.

When I clicked on "Share" I was shown icons for sharing. They included gmail, twitter, facebook, and several more. I clicked on the envelope icon and sent my answer to myself. The Gmail gave me the address to the question. Clicking on the address only allowed me to see this one question. It did not give me access to Mamapedia.

I like that option because sometimes a question fits with my daughter's interests. I can send the question to her. What appeared is the question and answers as they appear on the site.

I know many are concerned about privacy. I'm not because I know anything I put on the Internet is not private. Also, the only people I actually know on this site are those with whom I've directly communicated. Why would anyone not a member know who posted especially when they use a screen name or a wrong location.

I suggest that you try sharing to see how this works.

I looked at questions in 2011 and they had the share option. Perhaps mamapedia added it to previous questions when they added the option recently? I only recently noticed it.

Yeah, I hate Facebook with a passion.
I've just played around with AdBlock Plus (Select an Element to Hide feature) - and I've successfully removed the "Share" option link beneath each question.
The little twisted arrow icon is still there beneath the post (beneath the 'Save this to my bookmarks' as is the text 'this with your friends' but the highlighted Share link is hidden.

I SO LOVE AdBlock Plus (with Firefox)!
I can usually remove what ever I don't want to see!

Well, try it out, won't you? Make the post private, to "only me" and see what happens...it will surprise you.

Ya'll do realize anyone on God's green earth can come here and put in any old email address they want, right? Then they can scroll through every single question, look at every profile, etc....we're not a private group at all.

So, when you pick a question or response and click on SHARE...it posts a link that says Mamapedia.com.

THEN if you click on it you go to the main page. IF IF IF IF IF IF IF IF you're a member you go to the question.

So, nothing is shared, nothing weird happens, everyone's personal private FB name doesn't show up, nothing happens.

You have to be a member to see the questions and responses and ANYONE can join.

That's what happened when "I" shared it just now.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to hop in here and just quickly clarify a couple of things. The SHARE button that currently is included in the "What Can I Do Next? box at the end of each question is not new or recently added. In fact, it has been a standard option for our users in that same spot for at least several years now. When we created the new look and feel of the site we took it from the old site design and kept it intact on the new design. Hope that helps clear things up. Thanks for the question R.!
