Shampoo Recommendations.

Since I've moved out of my parents house 6 years ago I've yet to find a shampoo that is good and I can afford. When I lived at home my mom always bought the high end salon shampoos. What shampoo do you use and do you recommend it??? I don't even care about the price anymore!

What can I do next?

Hi, D.,

This might sound pretty silly, but have you tried Sally Beauty Supply? I recently discovered that they make generics of many of the high-end salon products. I got a large bottle of Biotera shampoo and conditioner, which is the knock-off generic for Biolage, for $6 each the other day. The Biolage stuff is more like $20 for the same size bottles - definitely more than what I'm willing to pay. I don't know what part of town you live in, but there is a Sally store in the Waterford Lakes shopping center.

Hope this is helpful!

Hi D.,

I was spoiled with the high end shampoos years ago before my kids were born. It was an indulgence I missed until I tried Herbal Essences "Hello Hydration". It smells really good and leaves my hair smooth and soft. Good Luck in your search!!

I've recently started using the Arbonne Line of products. They just came out w/an improved version that goes on sale today. I was able to get it earlier and love it. Made my hair feel awesome and the conditioner actually felt like it softened my hair w/out leaving a residue.

Good luck!

AVEDA just the basic shampoo and rosemary mint conditioner is fantastic. ITs all natural and not made up of mostly water and soap like most shampoos. you definately get you monies worth. just use a bit, it lathers up well and will last a long time. I have been a hairdresser for many years in high end salons and have used and sold this product to my clients for over 20 years and love it. it doesnt hurt to try.

Dove makes an intense damage shampoo and conditioner (in a blue bottle) that is just as good as the salon shampoos. You can buy it in any supermarket!

I use Pantene, I have used it for years and I love it. A Few years ago they came out with different types. Daily I use their smooth and sleek shampoo and conditioner. But for occasions when I am going to curl my hair I use the volumeizing shampoo and conditioner. You can always find samples of their products on freebie websites.

Hi D.,
I just wanted to write to give you another recommendation for Aveda products. I absolutely love their shampoos and conditioners! Shampure is a really good basic one. There are also individual formulas based on hair color. They all smell heavenly and last for a very long time because you only need a small amount. BTW, if you don't want to purchase them from a salon, you can sometimes find good deals on ebay. Look into Aveda, you won't be sorry!

I agree with someone below who suggested Aveda. I used to use them and liked them a lot. Now I am even more picky and use the purest shampoo around because the cosmetic industry is unregulated and there are lots of harmful chemicals in conventional shampoos. I use Aubrey Organics and get it at the health food store. Every ingredient is a plant part or something else recognizable. No big chemical names at all. Our skin absorbs the things we put on it, so that is why I'm so particular. I use their conditioner and their lotion too. more importantly I use these products on my daughter.

It is simple...baby shampoo is the answer! I know it sounds odd but no residue, build ups, breakage, dandruff and it even controls the frizz! I have super uncontrollable FRIZZ HEAD!! So trust me, the frizz is minimal with it! It is cheap and doesn't even burn the eye! I think you will be surprised! If you are one of those need tons of conditioner types just add a conditioner spray to your brushing routine!
Hope you find what you are looking for!

First of all, buy a bottle of Neutragena shampoo-- use it about once every 2 weeks or so-- it will wash out any residue from any and all hair care products. You will really notice a difference and your hair will feel really super clean. Don't use it every day because it can dry out your hair and strip it of essential oils.

For shampoo, I use Aussie-- sometimes you can find a coupon for it. I also use Finese for conditioner. When you find a product you like (or just one you want to try) go to the company's website and see if they will send you a sample or coupon.

We moved here from a home that had a water softener & amazing tap water, very unlike Florida. At first this water was killing our hair & I was trying product after product, also not caring about the price. One day my husband bought Shampoo, I wasn't happy b/c I knew nothing was really working. I did the hot oils & everything & nothing was working. Well, the shampoo my husband bought was the Pantene shampoo. I was instantly impressed & have went onto my second bottle. Both mydaughter & I are using both the shampoo and conditioners & it is better than anything else I have tried & it doing the trick!
