Shaky Feeling in Daughter's Legs

My 8 yr old daughter woke up this morning saying she felt "shaky". She said that her legs were shaky. They didn't actually move or twitch. I felt her leg and they were moving on the inside... like a muscle spasm or something. She didn't complain at all during the day at school or in the evening before bedtime. Has anyone experienced anything like this with their child? She says they're not painful, but I wonder if this could be related to the famous "growing pains". Thanks.

What can I do next?

It could be restless leg syndrome. My daughter used to get it and so do her kids. It seems to happen when they've been especially active for a day. I remember my grandson telling me one time that he was tired but "my legs won't take a rest." I would sit and massage their legs until they fell asleep.

Probably just normal twitching muscle spasms that we all experience from time to time. I'd monitor it to see if it lingers more than a day or two, and make sure she's fully hydrated. Might be something to ask the pediatrician about if it continues. If she's done something different, physically, lately than the norm, that would probably be the cause.

Could be low blood sugar - that can happen after our body has fasted overnight, or she ate a big amount of sugar the night before.

She could have restless legs syndrome which you should get checked out if it continues as there is medicine for that. At least per the commercials I have seen.

Also she may be low on potassium which she can get some from bananas or a supplemental if the doctor suggests that. I would take her to the doctors even if it stops just to make sure.

She probably had low blood sugar or was a little dehydrated. I get a weird shaky leg feeling if I don't eat something every 3 hours or so. Try giving her something to eat and drink and see if it helps.

Hi L.,

I would have her checked out by her doctor to make sure her blood levels are fine. Does she eat bananas she may need potasium.

Keep us posted on how she is doing.

Happy Holidays.

could it be muscle fatigue? Did she do more running or excercising than she's used to yesterday or the day before?
I know when I work out or begain a new work out routine and start doing something I don't usually do with in the next couple of days I am always pretty "shaky" in the muscles I used or over used
