Sewing Lessons

I've been wanting to learn how to sew. My husband got me a machine for Christmas and its been sitting in my family room. Does anyone offer lessons in the East Plano/Murphy/Richardson area? I've tried Joann and Hancock. They don't offer lesson unless you purchased one of their machines.

What can I do next?

The Plano Sewing Center has classes. It's on the southeast corner of Custer and Spring Creek.

I took sewing classes years ago for a place similar to JoAnn Fabrics. Sometimes Hobby Lobby or Michaels might have classes or they might know of someone who would be willing to give lessons. Hope you have some luck, J

Plano Sewing Center at the SE corner of Spring Creek and Custer Road.

We bought my daughter's machine there in January. The owner was super nice and they do offer sewing lessons. He spent a good hour letting my daughter practice on different machines and when she chose one, he made sure she knew all the ins and outs of it. She did not take a lesson, but she has already designed and made a shirt!

Good luck

Actually, that's not true about Joann's. I took a sewing lesson there and did not purchase my machine there - in fact they didn't even ask. I don't know which one you tried, but try the one at Preston and Forest - the classes are good.

Plano Sewing Center on Custer & Spring Creek offers classes. I think there is a sewing guild too.

M.,
I don't give sewing lessons, but I have been sewing most of my life and enjoy it. I learned from my mother and from High School home-ec. Have made most everything at least once. (Believe me--there are some things that you will be happy to say, "I proved to myself I could do it, but never again"!)

I think I would be interested in giving you private lessons for a reasonable fee, if you want to talk about it.

Why don't you send me a private message? Maybe we can talk on the phone.

There is a store in Dallas called City Craft. I found it a couple of months ago.

I always see sewing lessons in the Plano Park and Leisure magazine. You can check it out at:

Click on Adult and the sewing lessons info will come up or you can just phone them. I think it should be a lot cheaper than most sewing shops. Also you might want to contact Hobby Lobby and maybe Michaels.
