N.P.
I would check your park district or local junior colleges. Taking a course at a local JoAnn's/etc might give you the basics that you need to hem pants and then move on to "patterns"/measuring to take pants in all over. Good luck!
Do you know where I can go to learn to use a sewing machine and fix the hem of my pants? I know some craft stores give lessons but I've called and its more for learning how to do things like pillowcases. I just need to learn to fix the hem of my pants and those of my husband and daughter. I would also like to learn to take in my pants from the thighs. Most of my pants are really loose from behind my thigh area. I live in Alsip, so somewhere closeby would be great. Thanks in advance.

I was in the same situation and wanted to learn how to sew. I had received a sewing machine for my last birthday and that motivated me to find a class. I signed up for a sewing basics class at JoAnn's in Orland Park. You bring in your own sewing machine and they walk you through how it functions. From there I signed up for the next step, making a pair of pajama pants. I learned so much and have made a few things since.
I would recommend a class at JoAnn's.
Good luck.
My sister-in-law teaches private sewing lessons and she's great (not biased, at all). Her website is www.g-cas.net. Feel free to check her out. She also does sewing boot camps where she will come to you for a crash course in sewing. She's very passionate about sewing, patient and easy to follow.
Good luck!
