Hi ladies. I need your help once again. My hair is just wayyy to damaged for me to do anything to it. I have been getting my hair high lighted for jeez, like 6 years and my hair has major breakage and split ends. First question, is there anything i can do to get all the color out and bring my natural color back? Second question, is it true that highlighting is more damaging than dark colors? I would think so because of the bleach, but wouldnt coloring your hair (even dark) do damage as well? Thirdly, is there any hope besides chopping my hair and starting new? I dont have healthy hair at all, its stringy, frizzy, and just plain out nasty (the color, the feel of it, everything). Deep conditioning does nothing to my hair-and now i have no idea where to start.
My hair is really thick and curly so i often flat iron my hair. I wanted to do the permanent straighten (i thnk it lasts like 6mths or so), but i just know my hair will fall out if i do that.
I would just like healthy hair..what can i do? PLEASE HELP!!

What can I do next?

hi N. e,
you can try buying a product that lifts the color out of you hair so it goes back to the natural color. how long is your hair? if its long enough you can try cutting the split ends out and starting new and just growing it out. and not flat iron your hair for a while. just until you get it back to the healthy status. and permantly streighnting your hair is just plain irratating cuz then you spend a lot of money on it and haveing a baby and the tugs and pulls they do u have to put your hair up and if you do do it it ruins it bcuz then it leaves a line in your hair. i dont recommend it. well hope my advice helps let me know what happens!! good luck!

Darkening it does help. You can go to your local salon and get a deep condition and trim and it will work wonders

To answer your first question, yes, there is something you can use to remove the color from your hair, but because your hair has been bleached, I wouldn't recommend it. I think your best bet is using a permanent hair color close to your natural hair color and snipping your brittle ends.
Answer to second question: highlighting is generally more damaging than darker colors because a higher volume of peroxide is being used in the process. Example: to go from dark brown to blonde a 30 volume peroxide is used, but to go from blonde to a darker shade, a 10 volume peroxide can be used.
If you want healthy hair, I suggest you go to a professional to have your haircolor done. The boxed color at the drugstore always lies and has high volume peroxide in it, which will damage your hair even more. It sounds like you need a good cut too. Maybe a graduated cut will work for you, that way you'll have more length in the front and will still be able to clip your hair out of your face. Also, your flat iron can be your friend and your foe. Even the costly ceramic flat irons can damage your hair because you'r using high heat. Try to limit your flat iron use and ask your hairdresser for a cut that can be worn wavy. When you must go straight, be sure to use a product that protects against heat damage. I use one made by a brand called Proclaim found at Sally's Beauty Supply. It has a red cap on it. I just bought a 6 oz bottle on sale for $4.99! Lastly, I would suggest that you purchase a shampoo that is pH balanced (your hairdresser should know). I hope I've helped you out some.

Hi there :) I have long thick hair too. My hair is very dark and once upon a time, I put blondish highlights in it. It totally ravaged the strands. I had severe breakage and with the maintenance that highlights require, I never did it again. I did, however, get a chemical straightening. I never loved anything more in my life. Sure it causes breakage but anything like that does. I found it to cause less damage than the highlights, though I loved it because I could get out of the shower and air dry with no problems. You don't wash your hair for three days like a perm and I never had any trouble with creases in my hair from pulling it up. Good luck!

Yes you can go back to your natural color but it might take a few processes. Lightening your hair is very damaging to it, along with the flat iron.I would try using K-pak from Joico, it does miracles. It's a little pricey but it actually puts the protein back in your hair which will help it become stronger and help with breakage. You can use that 1-2 x's per week and in between you need to get a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I really like nexxus humectress for thick, curly hair, it's very moisturizing.Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Hi N., If your hair is extreamly damanged I would but any more colors or highligh lights at this time, and to get you hair back to it's nautal color you may just want to let it grow out. My oldest sister you to have a problerm with damanged hair, and once a month she used to use VO5 hot oil treament. Your hair sounds like my daughters hair, she's half black and she has to keep her hair strainghten becasue it is so long and so thick. I will luck up a home remedy for you, or natural remedy for you and let you know what i frind. J. L.
