When we travel I always stop the mail and I also stop the newspaper. Both can be done online. I never had a problem and I think it is safer than having the mail or the newspapers pile up outside.

There are still landscaping, pizza and cable TV flyers which can also pile up by the front door. To make sure the house doesn't look deserted, I ask my neighbors to check once in a while.

I put my mail and newspaper on hold while I am on vacation. Then if someone drives by your house they would think someone is home since ther is no mail piling up outside.

We ususally turn the hot water off ourselves. It saves a little money. We stop our newspaper. We leave everything else going.

two weeks not worth it. only because it will take weeks to get the appts scheduled to get them back on.

Ask a friend to care for your home, bring in the mail, water plants, turn on different lights each day, etc....
