Our youngest has been sick since Thanksgiving! It started as a runny nose and nasty cough no fever, clear lungs, ears checked out fine then about a week and a half of being sick he started with a fever, draining eyes, and a nose that was full of such thick yellow snot that it couldn't drip even if it wanted to so the ped put him on amoxicillin for a sinus infection. After battling him for 10 days to get the pink stuff in him we though we had won but 3 days later fever, congestion, cough, cranky, dark circles, runny nose all came back this time we were given augmentin for 10 days well here it is 3 days after his last dose and guess what........congestion, cranky, fever, dark circles, cough all have returned! This is ridiculous! I'll be calling our ped tomorrow but what do you guys think is next... another 10 days of antibiotics?

Edited:
I want to add that for heat we have the forced air vents on the floors and no matter how often they are cleaned they seem dusty. He has food allergies and also was on zyrtec bc he used to break out in hives unrelated to food allergies in August it was stopped because he hadn't broken out in a month so this is his first winter w/o it and he wasn't tested for environmental allergens so could it possibly be allergy related and not illness related?

So What Happened?

Evan is now on flonase and zyrtec and seems to be doing much better. His sleep has even improved a little because he is no longer snoring.

I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles with your child. Fear not, there are holistic and alternative answers to help you 'rid' his allergies. We see this about daily in our office and we fix all these problems for children. The culprits are any combination of the following:
heavy metal or chemical toxicity, parasites, and overburdened kidneys and liver.

When you see problems in the sinus area, they come from the bowels - large intestine, small intestine, stomach - essentialy from the 'diet'. toxins in food, pesticides, etc overburden the body and when it has too much to deal with in a short period of time, these organs get backed up. Think of thick gooey oil that hasn't been changed in your car for 6000+ miles and everything is sluggish and not working well. When you get the oil change, everything starts running more smoothly and you get better gas mileage.

Same is true for the body - the liver and kidneys get backed up - and it 'shows up' in the lungs and sinuses. When you clear out the junk/toxins/ undigested food that is hanging out in the digestive tract - things work better. In the case of your child, you likely are dealing with an infection - a bacteria or such. There are so many different herbs and nutrients that rid this stuff and in the big scheme of things, its easy and inexpensive to fix these problems and your child will be free of allergies for the rest of his life.

You do need to learn about foods and feed your child more organic items and keep the toxin load to a minimum (toxins are in even healthy food these days).

Dark circles are either low probiotics (good bacteria - and often this deficiency is related to the cause of the bug or bacteria entering and staying IN the body) or it can be related to kidney or gall bladder toxicity and over-burden.

either way - I can fix all of these problems for you in 2-3 months.

I am a mom of a 4 yr old boy and head nutritionist/owner at a holistic wellness center in Redondo Beach. We 'cure' kids of eczema, allergies, ADD,ADHD etc - all the time. The 'root' of the problems are often overload of toxins (combination of any of the following: from in utreo, vaccinations, moisturizers/lotions/shampoos, and environmental) but within the past month I have treated a 7 mo old, 2 yr old and two 5 yr olds with eczema and allergies - all of which had a parasite. One mom said her son's symptoms of (what looked to me as heartbreaking levels of eczema) that he was 40% better in 1 day.

We use all natural methods and non-invasive QRA to diagnose and devise a custom nutrient plan that balances the body and detoxifies and balances things out. We also look at injury sites of the body as these are often the culprits.

I am not sure what they do for children, but this sounds like me! Amoxicillin did nothing. I battled this for months. I was pregnant so treatment was limited. Once I saw an ENT and got treated after the baby was born, I saw results. Still, though, I'm on the third round of very strong medicine because the infection keeps coming back. Next will be surgery.

I would suggest a pediatric ENT and urgently.

I went through the same thing when I was younger. I missed so much school and it would have been nice if I didn't spend it in so much pain. For me it was allergies. Dust mites and molds. I don't remember when pill medication I took to control it but I had to have allergy shots for years to get it under control. I do have to say they worked though. We lived in some older houses and that didn't help. Thats my sinus infection story anyway.

do you use a humidifier in his room? if not it helps. unforntunately the amoxicillain didn't work so he will most likely be on augmentin. this will definately clear it up, but stinls that he may have to take more medicine.

Have you tried a neti pot? Takes some getting used to but worth it. I also agree that things like a vaporizer help a lot.
Also keep in mind that there have been new developments in treatment of chronic sinus infections. Alternative treatments like balloon sinuplasty (vs. traditional sinus surgery) are gaining traction. Check into it.
Cheers
